Nice find.
It is in my intensions to visit those U-booten as well as U-505 in the US.
I don't know if I will be ever able to do that, though.

I can picture myself in the Zentrale of that XXI shouting commands!:D

Just visited U-505 a couple weeks ago...being in the U.S. the exhibit as a whole is of course US/Allied-centric, but the museum does a good job highlighting the Navies and the men while leaving the politics out, including recognition of the merchant marine, which I wasn't expecting but thought was a very nice touch. The boat itself is well-preserved (considering it's some 60+ years beyond it's designed service life) and definitely worth seeing.

Frankly I can't help but wonder about how much the Wilhelm Bauer is actually close to the wartime configuration. Even if the Baltic is a relatively benign environment a decade underwater is not going to do any good to such a complex piece of machinery. One can't help but wonder how much was kept and how much was replaced and in the latter case whether original or original looking spares were available instead of newer items. Its use as test bed has further muddled the issue.
I haven't seen much in the way of Type XXI interior pictures for comparison sake, although it seems logical to assume that must have been taken either during the war or during the evaluation studies.
