WELCOME ABOARD! :sunny:
Yes, SHO is advertised as Free To Play. They expect to make money from people who don't want to wait for upgrades and goodies, and are willing to pay for them now. I've hear that this kind of thing does indeed make money for the company. We'll see how it goes. |
That's good news!

Free to play certainly does work, as does pay to upgrade - it just kind of sneaks up on you if you really get into it. I didn't think I'd pay to upgrade free stuff, but Rise of Flight is an excellent example of me doing so.
People still buy DLCs for paid games, well it's just the same. Unless you want to grind your way through to upgrades, which works in F2P. |

I looked at SHO and said I'd never pay for something like that. Then I did a detailed study of ROF (mainly watching lots of videos) and found myself licking my lips in anticipation of getting a computer that will run it. Yeah, I'd pay for the right content. :damn: |
I can see it now:
$1.99 to increase max surface speed $1.25 to increase torpedo effectiveness $.99 increase morale $1.25 reduced fatigue rate $.99 expert reload increased reload speed $.99 expert gun crew $1.99 deep dive $1.99 longer lasting batteries $2.50 expert watch crew $.99 gramophone player with 4 period songs! $4.99 fifty song gramophone pack $1.50 prewar training mission expansion pack $2.50 paint scheme pack $4.99 conning tower emblems pack $2.25 sound FX upgrade $6.00 graphics upgrade Before you know it you just paid $200 for SHIII w/ GWX :nope: |

Yes, the game is free to play (FTP), which really means that it's pay to win (PTW). That's all that I am really concerned about now. I have accepted the game for what it is, and have no other worries except for this model.
|
Not all F2P are P2W (heh). See Team Fortress 2 for example.
On the other hand, if the game is coop multiplayer, just because somebody is advancing faster than you in XP path ... why do you care? |
Lets avoid making people falsely believe incorrect acronyms.
"pay two win" is P2W. <-- wrong communication when using the number 2. "Pay To Win" is PTW. If you feel like using three letters or digits, use the ones guaranteed to get the torpedo on target. |

Not exactly, an investigation made last year about the games on Facebook, showed that only 3.7 % paid money on the game they played there. (I've been searching for it, but I can't find this report) But maybe the people in this forum are more generous and are more willing to pay. Markus |
