Wow. Really? The people who made the first proper flight sim for console are bankrupt?

I have lost my faith in humanity :dead:

Nah. They're filing Chapter 11, which allows them to reorganize the business while they continue to run it. Chapter 7 is when they sell off everything and shut the whole thing down.

I heard it was a protective move, to move away from French ownship by Atari SA, formally Infogrammes SA.

I think Atari will live on, I don't know why, but I do.

I still have my old Atari ST500 computer. Its successor, the 1030TT, was better than any IBM clone at the time. They could have dominated the market, but for bad business practices. To this day I wish they had succeeded.

Then I guess it's a good thing that Atari sold Star Trek Online to Perfect World. :o

Take your left hand and firmly smack yourself for saying such a thing. There is no such thing as a proper flight sim for console! :stare:

Now they did give us ArmA, IIRC. They published it I think... That was a very good game.

Tell that to the many casual players who played multiplayer on simulator mode.
They didn't bother to put their flaps in the right position. And they were way too high to drop torpedoes. At the end of the day, only one person had gotten a single kill. And he was an expert.

I love Gaijin and Atari :|\\

Which "Sim" are you referring to? :06:

I can do the same exact thing in Battlestations: Midway on my xbox and that is not a proper simulation. Darn, flew too fast and broke a torpedo. Guess, I'll have to launch another 30 Avengers....Heck, subs run submerged at like 30 knots. In Battlestations: Pacific, the planes can "Boost" and the planes can reload their payloads while in the air. It's ridiculous! But hell, it's mad fun.

Dang. I want to go play some Battlestations. I really do love the Battlestations games. The storyline to Midway was crappy from a realistic POV, but enjoyable otherwise. Too bad Eidos went in the toilet. We might've seen Battlestations: Atlantic! That would've been great.

Flight Sims on console aren't as realistic as Computer Flight Sims. On a console, you jump almost instantly into the action. In IL-2 on the computer, you may fly for hours until you get some action (thats if you don't use time compression). I have yet to see a "Proper Simulation" on a console.

^^

I was referring to Birds of Steel, and to a lesser extent, it's predecessor, IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey.

And Birds of Steel was made by Konami, not Atari :/\\!!

EDIT: And even if they aren't realistic, they sure are fun!

:wah:

Spent the best parts of my childhood on my 2600. Still have it in a loft, somewhere.

:hmmm: Did they produce anything innovative, hard- or softwarewise in the past 2 decades?
In the past years Atari stood only for cheap and buggy casual games. Another proof that just buying a brand name means crap, if the brand owners don't follow the name's legacy.

Ahhh memories of Space Invaders and long hours before the console. Tanks as well. Would play against my Dad and sis.

I haven't played Birds of Steel yet...but yes. Those console "simulations" can be fun....I've spent a long time with Battlestations Midway...I still haven't bought BS Pacific yet. I've played the IL-2 Birds of Prey demo and that was okay....Birds of Steel might be good when the price drops. :hmmm:

I'm not sure how innovative it was, but Neverwinter Nights was a great game.
