Which version of SH5 should I buy?
 

I am planning on returning again to Silent hunter series now that I notised the possibilith to play in offline mode.

When I look around for it, I see several version, SH5 Exclusive, Gold, download only. Does it matter which one to buy in regards with modding it?

Not steam. Otherwise - don't really matter, as far as I know.

The Gold version adds some extra ships, and costs more.

I can be wrong, but I seem to remember that those ships are already in the retail version of the game, but not set to spawn in campaign, or they are retextured clones of already featured ships. :hmmm:

That could be. I only know what I remember from old conversations. I think I was told then that the extra ships were ones you could unlock after completing certain objectives, but with the Gold version you got them now. Either way, I think in this case "Gold" is a waste of money.

In regards to the Gold or some places call it the "Collectors" edition...Don't bother spending the extra money. I purchased it because it said it came with the normal game manual and an extra detailed "Guide". Well this guide is not much more than the regular manual and can be read in about 10 minutes. It also said it came with extra skins, but I don't see them in game anywhere so who knows? Just get regular version.

I bought the Collectors Edition back in October 2011. It was a digital download, not the boxed version so I didn't get the manuals it mentioned, etc. As for those skins....same as you I can't seem to find them yet.

I also have a copy of the Gold Edition I recieved as a gift. Maybe I'll try two installs, one of each, and see if there are any differences or they're the same just named differently.
