[REQ] Does the captain ever sleep ?
So traveling and navigating to the hunting grounds especially using real nav is part of the experience. Would it be possible to allow the captain to get some shut-eye and translate the boats position to simulate a period of sleep. Perhaps the code could include a command to wake captain if something happened like seeing a contact, or a radio message. I got the idea from Fallout, where you get tired if you stay awake for more than a set period.

Nope, never. You are the Captain, you don't need no stinkin sleep. LOL Heck, the crew doesn't sleep either. Moral is the only thing that will go kaput on them.
SH5 is not like SHIII. You can't move your men around so they rest when fatigued. Unless someone makes a mod that does let you do it. Besides, in the stock SH5 there aren't enough crew to do this. |
I think that is a cool idea! Stay awake for too long, and it would show visually on the screen and eventually you would just fall asleep (forced tc for like 4-8 hours). Sh5 is a captain simulation after all!
Edit. And In my opinion, it's not captains task to run crew shifts! |

I used to hate this feature :nope: But the request of the OP is quite nice. |

This could possibly be quite easy using a visual filter and little piece of code to check if you have been in your bed .. and for how long, with a few warning messages .. too much 'fatigue' and you blackout, which transfers you to your bed where your fatigue will slowly wear off. The sub should be kept safe-ish by going to max dive depth and engine off and silent running for instance. TC could be used by player to speed up resting, other subcontrols should be 'dead'. Is that possible without asking TDW ?

I wonder if it would be possible to re-work the entire morale system to deal with fatigue instead of morale? As in when a crew member becomes too fatigued they perform worse and eventually disappear to 'sleep'. So to keep your crew (and yourself) fresh and combat-ready, you would have to use safe periods to let your key personnel get some rest. If not, crew performance would suffer. Much like the existing morale system, except using sleep instead of cheerfulness. I know when I am at the end of an 18 hour shift I get more from 8 hours of rest than from my boss asking about my day...
Basically same idea from the OP but apply it to Captain, Chief, diesel man, gunner, torpedoman, boatswain, WO, sonarman, radioman as well. That being said, the idea is frighteningly close to The Sims :P |
...as long as I dont get a social bunny to keep me bussy in my conning tower, I can live with that likeness :p
