Hardware crash (BSOD)
Please help. I am starting new carrer with SH3 commander using GWX3 mod. Patrol in area (etc. BF16) using Hydrophone station under ~30m BSOD (two variants: reset buton and shutdown PC :-( ) motherboard - intel dz68db, VGA - nvidia 570 GTX, RAM 16 GB, processor - intel - i7 2600K. OS: Win7 ultimate x64 (all latest drivers). Thanks.

YOUR hardware shouldn't be the problem - only if something gets too hot. You should read out the temps, especially of your 570 GTX.
BSOD, I think, is often caused by a driver / .dll, I would suspect the soundcard/chip drivers. After BSOD, there is often a file produced containing information about the crash. That could be helpful. It is called \blablabla\minidump You can watch it with a program like that: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html Can you reproduce the BSOD while playing SH3 Stock version? Is your PSU strong enough? |
Not, no BSOD, no dump files in windows folder. On crash moment green/ black screen and sound tra ta ta ta ta. PC total crashed. reset buton our shutdown. This first game on this PC. All steam games work correct. (etc: Crysis 2, formula 2012, Deus Ex human revoliution and othes..)
Can you reproduce the BSOD while playing SH3 Stock version? (steam cersion 1.4) Is your PSU strong enough? 850 W This sound chip drivers problem PC crash only on hydrophone station. |
If your pc is shutting down that could well be a temperature issue.

I installed an extra fan in my computer just to avoid this issue. Might be something to consider.:hmmm:

OK, no BSOD but black screen and strange sound. SH3 is a directX 9 based game. 1. Try to get the latest dx9 version and install that. It can't do any harm.
If that doesn't help, 2. it is a codec problem, which can be solved by installing a codec pack. Try first solution No. 1 |
Not temperatures. VGA sleep, procesor sleep on this game. Silent Hunter 3 not suported my hardware. Chipset drivers problem sound and others. Silent Hunter 5 runing without problems...
|
If you still get the same after getting the latest DX9, and sound chip drivers, try either updating your nVidia drivers, or if you're on the current release (not beta!) roll back maybe to the 297.xxx region and try again.
|
All these VGA cards today have their own soundchip onboard to deliver sound via HDMI, it could be a conflict with the mainboard soundchip / soundcard as well.
So if solution No. 1 and 2. don't help, that would be solution No.3 ( deactivate one of the two soundchips). |
@kranklys74
danasan is onto something I think, stuttering sound leading to lockup is usually soundcard/chip related, however, I've not heard of this giving wierd screen colours/glitches. This part sounds more related to GPU drivers. As Herr-Berbunch suggests roll your GPU drivers back to 266.58. They are old but SH3 runs rock solid under them. Good luck. Best regards. Fubar2Niner |
As soon as resources like IRQ are shared by accident, well :yep:

You are welcome. I am glad that it works now. Many greetings to the eastern direction we call Litauen. Good hunting!
BTW: Your hardware could run SH3 and SH5 at the same time, if you want that  |
