I'll make three predictions.

1. A new single-player subsim will be announced.

2. Silent Hunter Online will be a success.

3. Political discussion will go out of style on GT.

Going to be a good year.

Platapus 01-01-13 10:19 AM

2013 won't be as bad as people fear nor as good as people hope. The United States will survive as will the citizens.

Some things will change and some things won't. But in the long run, everything will be OK. Not great, not horrible, just OK.

You need a better crystal ball.

I predict that people will continue to post useless threads in GT. :O:

soopaman2 01-01-13 10:59 AM

Someone famous will die.

I will make at least 100 stupid posts, if not more.

I will make some kind of an ass of myself here.

Sailor Steve will win the lottery.

Pigs will fly.

The San Francisco 49ers will barely win the Superbowl.

@ Soopaman2: Interesting dichotomy. You make three surefire predictions, followed by three sure misses. :O:

number 1: Of course "subsim" is a pretty vague term. If you are referring to what we here would consider a submarine simulator (historically based and an actual simulation), I would not expect any of the big developers to produce anything. I just don't think the market share is there. There are always the possibility of an indi developer coming up with one and that might not be such a bad thing.

Number 3: Unless Neal implements rules, that will never change. I personally favour a separate political subforum that can easily not be looked at. The political whiners can have their forum and the rest of the members can easily ignore them if they want. win win

The only other way it can be changed is to simply not allow political threads. On some of the other forums I haunt, their "general topic/off topic" forums have a strict no politics rule. Any political thread is simply deleted. And you know what, the off topic forum is a fun place to go. No one seems to miss the political bovine byproducts.

As for number 2: I really can't opine as I don't play SH-online nor am I tempted. I really don't see how a multiplayer subsim game works online. How do you handle TC. In the online game does the action just warp to when the encounter occurs (which would not be bad at all).

My biggest complaint is that submarine simulators are too accurate in that in WWII, most of the time nothing was happening combat wise. That makes for an accurate simulation but a lousy game. How do you handle that with multiplayer?

Cool, at least the Niners will still win, I am glad we think alike.

Multiplayer has been possible for a long time and TC is limited to x1 or real time for everyone.
