too many planes!

I am definitely feeling grumpy today, something to do with lack of kip, AND the fact that I am being mercilessly shadowed by Japanese planes, even though they do not know I am there. Yesterday I spent most of the time fixing up a computer to pass on to other folk, but in-between doing that, keeping the household going, feeding best beloved etc, I kept SH4 running as I am heading to Iwo Jima and have 400 miles yet to go. It is so ANNOYING though as every time I pop up to the surface there very soon appears a gang of planes coming up from behind, usually, which are likely to fly too close to the sub to be ignored, so I have to go down again, and my battery is getting depleted and it is only 9.00 am in the morning. I am up and down like a whores drawers and I am thinking surely you wouldn't really get such a high incidence of planes on that particular flight path, would you? Is there a way I can tweak the game to cut it down do you know please?

Yeah, I sure know that feeling! :yep: I played several stock careers through and the ridiculous aircover situation led me to staying under water by day and runnin' fast by night. :haha: Damn, did I get lambasted for recomending that tactic to another player!:har:

Seriously though, there's only so many times you can be expected to dive during one day eh!:)

She-Wolf 01-01-13 09:10 AM

ah! sympatico - thank you troopie :D

What year of the war is it, and what mods are you using. There should be heavy air cover when you're near a Japanese base, but otherwise no. I don't think the stock game knows that, but the better supermods should.

I have no idea why someone would give you grief for that. That was the code I lived by back when I played SH1 all the time. If it's early in the war and pre-radar, what else can you do.

She-Wolf 01-01-13 10:24 AM

at present my mods are -

maxoptics3 for SCAF 1.5
tambor 198's TMO+RSRDC mission pack
stop the shouting
OpsMonsun_V705

but all that will change when I get back to base
The year is 1942, February.
Lots of activity down toward Hong Kong, South China Sea, but I have been sent to Iwo Jima (hmph)

Wait, whut?

You're running the mission pack for TMO, but not TMO itself? How does that work?

I think your problem with planes is that, despite having one TMO add-on, you're basically running the stock game. I would consider that a problem right there.

Also, OM is strictly for Atlantic operations in u-boats. It doesn't hurt anything Pacific-related that I know of, but there's not much sense in having it. On the other hand, if you're going to have an Atlantic campaign as well, you should probably have a separate installation and use MultiSH4. That way you can have all the OM-related stuff and German voices as well.

probably these mods got left behind when I took TMO 2.5 off. I had been having problems with day turning to night after a save and resume, so tried different things, following other folks suggestions - and I was also playing U-boats, so maybe that's how the OM got on there. People have mentioned the MultiSH4 before (and I would prefer to have the German voices) but I did not follow through on that, maybe... seems likely that I will start a new career when I get back ( sigh) and then put TMO on again and compatible mods - can I still have the MultiSH4 option as well?

I had this problem yesterday. I'm based in Fremantle at the moment and they tell me to sail to the Aleutians....I had probably 150 air radar contacts round trip from Fremantle through the South China Sea, Up by Japan, and down the Aleutian island chain. Then, I sailed towards the Solomons and after Refueling at Midway, I got back to Fremantle. I was diving to Periscope depth constantly. It got very annoying.

ah, not just me then... I have now uninstalled SH4 meaning to start again with TMO 2.5, and now, wouldn't you know it, my DVD drive has turned its toes up, so I will have to wait until I get another as all our spares are IDE
(sobs).... unless I got a download... hmm, wonder how much they are..:hmm2:

I'm running TMO 2.5 with RSDRC. It is great. But when the icon pops up that shows an enemy airbase. Avoid the area. Like I said, I probably had 150 Radar Contacts round trip.

Planes can be a pain even with RSRD, moreso in areas where campaigns are taking place. Mid to late 42 they're so many planes in the Solomons it can drive you nuts as he has many air raids. However, the majority of ship traffic comes through at night anyway, so I just dive until night.

I do that too. I get sick of the planes and just do daytime at periscope depth or 100 feet. Depends where I am patrolling. Every once in a while, I'll get 2 or 3 radar contacts at night and none of them can see me. The contacts have gone right over me and missed me.

I've been doing this method for a long time now, it's a bit frustrating, but there's no other way i guess. When the aircraft fly over at night, they won't see me?

the mission pack for TMO+RSRDC has ships in it that are added by TMO+RSRDC so she will get a CTD anytime the mission calls for one of these "missing" ships (sometimes thats half way thru a mission)

the tambor 198's stock game mission pack is the same missions where just the TMO+RSRDC added ships were replaced with ships found in the stock game so the missions would be essentially the same or close to it but there would be no CTD issues because of the missing ships.

i highly recommend tambor 198's missions for being well made and very challenging for those who dont always have time for career play

I know the feeling that's why I always grab a air sreach radar so that way unless one of the mods makes your AA more powerful I generally dive to perscope depth.:ping:
