TMO 2.5 overhaul mod
Happy new year y'all.
I have been browsing the threads here and see that TMO 2.5 is still highly rated by one and all - and I would like to add it again to my mods next time I am in base, but am a bit skeered to do that now. I miss it and I miss also the mod which gives you the ships shape on the chart when you are trying to estimate the speed - I don't like this 'dot' I have at present. I took it off y'see because I found that some way into the mission, after a save, I would go back in and day would have somehow turned to night and the clock would remain wrong. Nothing I tried would make it come right, and I would have to start my career all over again. Grr, so eventually I took it off, restarted my current career and have not had the problem since. Have YOU had this problem or is it something to do with my computer? My current mods are - maxoptics3 for SCAF 1.5 tambor 198's TMO+RSRDC mission pack stop the shouting OpsMonsun_V705 and I am running 64bit Windows 7. |
Happy New Year!
Did you use SCAF with TMO 2.5, SCAF does not work with TMO 2.5... OTC for TMO or if you're going to use RSRDC use OTC for RSRDC TMO changed the sihouette to a dot and its a hassle to change the silhouette back, think you can still do it but you'll need to go into the readme and look it up. Off the top of my head changing all the ships back could still give conflicts with other ships as there are numerous ships added to TMO. PS: You might want to give it a chance as its quite easy to estimate speed, just mark the target with the black pen on the NAV map and press the chronometer, wait 3min and place a second marker on the dot, take the protracor and measure the distance between the dots... Example: marker 1 "wait 3min" marker 2 is lets say 800y = 8kts The 3min rule not only gives you the speed but is also gives you a pretty accurate ships heading which you need for making a correct firing solution :smug: GL and happy hunting EDIT: I forgot to add, I think using tambor 198's TMO+RSRDC mission pack and OpsMonsun or any TMO with OM or RSRDC with OM is asking for trouble as those are 3 mega mods which do not work together. To many changes in the same files. At least thats what I think I read.. maybe someone can enlighten that part. |
The clock displays the Base Time not time where you are. It was pitch black at 1300 on my first patrol from Pearl. What you are seeing is probably this. It is correct.

HertogJan, thank you, you have given me hope. :) I expect I was using SCAF before as I tend to stick with just a few that 'work' for me. I shall take your advice about OTC. The dot thing I find frustrating, wanting to have the prow of the boat to fix on, but I will give it a go next time, as you say.
Can I ask what two or three other mods you might recommend as compatible with TMO please, in respect of navigation, ship incidence, weather control, optics? |
Thank you Red October, I agree about the difference between local time and base time, but what was happening in the game when the day-turned-to-night events started happening was something completely out of sync and clearly wrong. It must have been down to mod incompatibility as it has not happened since I removed TMO, but now I shall follow HertogJan's advice when I get back to base, re-install TMO and other compatible mods and hopefully it will not happen again.

SCAF is a bit old, but it still works. You just have to use the right version. I use SCAF v502 and it works fine with TMO 2.5 + RSRDC.
|
thank-you rattikins, note taken, I can use that if nothing else suits :D
|
My advice is if you want to run TMO again, do it off a clean install of SH4. After you load it, quit and restart the game, then load your other mods.
SCAF works fine with TMO/RSRD 502, but check to see where the stad points are for each ship, a few aren't included, so you would use high point. Tambors mission pack for TMO/RSRD works fine, it was made for both. |
Oh. And there's the Easier AI for TMO mod in case the TMO AI is too strong for you. I started out using it and as it got easier, I took it off. I love TMO+RSRDC. They are great mods made by great modders. :yeah:
|
Armistead (the famous), thank you for your advice, and I hear it, but am unwilling to do a clean install again, unless I really have to - and as I recall, I had done that when I put TMO 2.5 on the first time... I will try and wing it just following the guidance of your good self and the others as to what mods to use. Ho hum :)

ummmm... if I understand Torpx correctly, I have to start a new career to run TMO 2.5 - but if I were to have a fresh copy of the data folder tucked away as Armistead suggests, how would that work - I would still need to start a fresh career wouldn't I?
Oh well.. a fresh start would be OK if TMO behaves as it should I s'pose - but it would be nice to actually FINISH a career, which hasn't happened yet in all the years I have been playing.....:nope: |
Personally, I like to tinker and run the risk of screwing up the game, so what I do is actually make a copy of the whole game folder before installing mods. I'd rename the copied folder to something like "Sh4 Stock" or something similar. Hell, you can even run the stock game side by side with tmo doing this, should the need arise.
