New York to outlaw electronic cigarettes ... what the heck is an elctronic cigarette?

I didn't even know that they had such a thing as an electronic cigarette ... how would you Bogart something like this? :haha:

Quote:

New York: Starting next week, selling electronic cigarettes to minors in New York will be illegal. State law already prohibits selling cigars, cigarettes and chewing tobacco to those under 18 and retailers can be slapped with a $1,000 fine if they are caught.

Sen. Owen Johnson, R-Babylon, sponsored the measure and says E-cigarettes “have not been proven to be safe for use at any age.”

The battery-powered devices are used to inhale vaporized liquid nicotine instead of tobacco smoke.

They were initially marketed as a safe alternative to cigarettes but some say their candy flavors appeal to minors.

More than 200 new laws will be on the books Jan. 1 and while some may seem silly or outdated others like the approval of
same-sex marriage in Maryland have garnered national attention over the past year.
More laws will pass January 1st 2013 like it will now be illegal for your dog to chase a bear in California

It's what I used to quit smoking. I would bet that the tobacco companies are throwing plenty of lobbying dollars behind the campaign to smear electric cigarettes.

This was the radom ad generated on top of this thread: :D

LOL :)

I had a go of one belonging to Kratos and it took a few pints of the barmans best ale to rid my mouth of the taste.

A bit mis-leading title there geetrue, I think the word 'minors' is very important and a ban to such is needed to prevent then becoming addicted to nicotine. I know of no sane person that would actually think a child being addicted to any drug isn't worth legislating against.

Also, if you really think the ads at the top are random . . . :nope:

:O:

It's an electronic device that's shaped just like a cigarette. When you inhale on it as you would a cigarette, a heating element in the device vaporizes a water and glycerin mixture that you inhale and exhale as you would smoke from a cigarette. The benefit is that you're not getting the chemicals that are in tobacco, and you can buy liquid that doesn't even have nicotine in it.

Since it mimics the act of smoking so well, it's handy to use when you're quitting smoking.

They're not sold in packs. You buy a rechargeable battery piece, the vaporizer, the tips and the liquid. The liquid goes in the tip, the tip goes into the vaporizer and the vaporizer screws into the battery. The whole set can be had for anywhere from $50 to $100. There's a lot of different types and designs, so prices vary a lot.

The only parts that are an ongoing cost are the tips and the liquid. One bottle of liquid lasts a long time, much longer than a pack of cigarettes. One bottle is probably the equivalent of 10 to 20 packs of cigarettes. Refill bottles are anywhere from $5 to $10 or $15 and up. Lots of manufacturers with their own special flavor formulas and whatnot.

On a dollar for dollar basis, it's cheaper than real cigarettes. Probably healthier too.

And this E-liquid can be an many different flavour and strenght(regarding nicotine)
