I knew he was still around.

I attended a master class taught by Dave Brubeck back when I was an undergrad in 1997. As gifted as he was in the capacity of a performer, his real skill was as an arranger and composer.

Thank you for sharing your gifts with us, Mr. Brubeck. The world is a less colorful place in your absence.

When I was just getting interested in music there was a CBC radio program that came on every day and my Mom would listen to it. The theme music was 'Take Five'. I heard the first sixty seconds hundreds of times but it was only years latter that I found out the name of the piece and who Dave Brubeck was.
