this guy is out of touch if he thinks "most people in their mid 40s" could scrounge up a half million bucks for the ticket cost.

while he might find that kind of change in the junk drawer, car cup holders and underneath the cushions of the sofa... i dont think most people in their 40s could.

and even if they did have the ability to secure it through a loan, what bank would loan someone $500 large on the weeks leading up to what could amount to a never-to-be-seen-or-heard-from-again suicide mission?

I think its realistic to colonize mars within the near future, but i think if you are going to send a bunch of average Joes tear-assing through space its going to have to run a shade under half a million space bucks.

i think the goal should be to establish a stable colony and then create a way to make round trips so people could be rotated out... like if they want to come back and make back their money authoring books and doing talk shows and the like. :smug:

I just think this will never be cost effective to do. The supply line is too long and if there is some sort of emergency....:dead:

On a side note, is the Space Shuttle capable of deep space travel? (Assuming the booster rocket to put it out there):hmmm:

As long as you are not going too far. The oxygen and water supply is the limiting factor so if you are going far you better have a good booster than gets you moving quickly. :03:

According to what the nutters on youtube say believe it or not. man has been to mars many times, on secret missions to mars since the late 1980s.

Though this part might be true :hmm2: Mars is not a red planet, its actually like the Arizona desert, its sky is a light blue, not red. When the first photos of Mars came out NASA edited the photos of Mars to hide the truth. Something more is happening on Mars than we know about. :o
