Ghost ship in Luzon Straight

I came across a "ghost ship" while hunting enemy merchants in Luzon Straight. At first, I spotted it by radar and attack scope but could not get close enough to it. It went away. Now, it has come back. After 5 days (game time) the ONLY ship that keeps appearing is this 3 masted ghost ship. NO ENEMY. It is pretty nifty how the people on board float on deck. There are even women and a child onboard! I have tried firing torpedos, deck guns and running my sub right through it. How do I get rid of this and move on? I've sunk 26 merchants ships so far and would like to finish my mission. Has anyone else encountered this ship? ANY TIPS ON HOW TO destroy this or move on in the game with finding enemy ships again?:arrgh!:

Are you serious, a GHOST ship with women and children FLOATING,hahaha:haha:
I think you're confused. I guess you could try ramming it and taking the floating women for captured slaves....hahaha.

Nice try, most of us here have been around too long to fall for that.

Ghost ship

Armistead's quote "I added a fleet of them (Flying Dutchmen) into RSRD once, near the Solomons, it funny, they attack the Japs, sunk several DD's...Course unfair battle, since they don't take damage, but the Japs attacked them back...Not sure how those old smooth bore cannon can sink a ship, but it was funny watching about 8 Dutchmen take on a Kongo TF."

Who's laughing now? :arrgh!: I even showed my "1st mate" (my wife) my struggle with this ship while in the Luzon Strait. It's real alright - no hallucination (there are previous posts here on Subsim about it but nobody has apparently had my issue with it taking over the game and not allowing any more active battles - no matter where I go now, this ghost ship shows up and that's it). So I'm REALLY looking for someone's help - I'm stuck in the game with this ship. ANY HELP from anyone is greatly appreciated! Many thanks.:/\\!!

Hahaha! I had a similar incident last night. I was patrolling around the Marshall Islands when my sonarman reported a ship. I did the normal intercept thing, but even at 1000 yds I couldn't see it! The weather was a little rough but I should have seen a ship at that range. I went to the sonar room and, yes I could hear it alright, a slow screw, clear as a bell. So I surfaced, and up on deck I went, but no ship!

In the end I concluded that it might have been an enemy sub who submerged after hearing or seeing me. But I was surprised that if he saw me he didn't take a shot at me. :hmmm:

I once had that problem and all I did was move towards Malina for a time, problem solved.

Here's my favorite SS from one encounter.

I've run into this thing so many times, I've got lots of screenies. There are some pretty strange people on the deck. :arrgh!:
I always encounter it off of Johnston Island when I refit with the USS Holland. (I'm assuming it's the Holland). The Dutchman started to follow me right into the dang atoll and I was getting Ghostly explosions off the side of my boat. So it WAS firing at me.
Warning: Don't screw with it, I'm very suprised you didn't get any damage. I have heard of it sinking fleet boats, or at least taking damage from this thing, and you can't damage it. Run like hell!
Is that scary enough?? :ping:

I don't know about you, but I thought I was experiencing some ghostly encounter like this, but it turned out just to be an enemy submarine.

the devs created some "easter eggs" in the game for fun so at times you would come accross them and be surprised :)

most were removed by the big mods because they were non realistic so things like the smiley faced radar contacts were taken out.

the flying dutchman seamed to be a favorite by most so if any easter egg was left in the game i think it might be this one.

its often moving at a good 15-20 kts so you cant keep up with it and it has no damage model so you cant hit it with anything, all you can do is look at it as eye candy

I will paste a link to my post re the ghost ship. I an not sure if it is the flying dutchman. But it is definitelyt a ghost ship, as direct hits pass through its hull without damaging it. I logged the time, date and coordinates cause I am brilliant, even though no one else agrees. Here you are: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...3&postcount=24.

Doesn't everyone record the coordinates of the location where they make contacts? (Plus, I have to stand up to debriefing, which is ocnducted by Admiral Spike, my fifteen pound toy poodle, every night at dinner.)

Getting sloppy are we? (If this decline persists, soon we will be reading about officers cavorting with married women.)
