"YesSir" "YesSir" "YesSir"///AAAAAAAGHGH
It's actually not that bad...it's worse.:O:
Has anyone, figured a way to get my crewman to say "Man the deck gun" like he did when I first loaded the game four years ago. It's also "Man the flak gun" and a couple others. Mostly bridge commands. All I get is "Yes Sir" "Yes Sir" "Yes Sir"... Over and over until the order is carried out. I have checked the speech files, they are all there. So I really don't know where to look after that. If someone could point me in a direction, maybe some menu files or anything, I could try to track this down. I just don't know where to look. Thoughts?? Thanks Mates. D40 |
Play SH4 V1.4 if you only play the US-Campaign cause this is an Bug of the V1.5 UBM-Version.

I wonder if this can be fixed. Does everyone have to put up with this bug? The 1.5 patch is not only U-Boat campaigns but it has some game fixes too if I'm not mistaken. I would hate to lose that. Thanks for the reply... D40:hmmm: EDIT: I checked the files and the crewman speech files "Man the deck gun" "Man the flak gun" are not there!! |
My inclination would be to use a sound editor and replace every single "Yes Sir!" with a blank file. It's not something any American sailor ever says in response to an order, and having the officer say it and then give the order to whoever, who just repeats it, is silly. Totally unrealistic.

Hey, this is interesting, I have the same problem too and it drives me mad but I never put it down to the V1.5 patch since I play the various SH's fairly sporadically.
I've got two installs of SH4, one is version 1.4 and the other is 1.5 and they both have all the approiate speech files yet I still have the bug.:hmmm: Edit: Ooops...both are 1.5 :/\\!! ....But i do definately have the files! |

Now, just to make sure, I go into the data/sounds/speech(I guess) and veeola,...they're gone! Just those two, maybe more but I don't know right now. All I know is those two are missing for sure. Now, I'm trying to locate a fresh speech folder somewhere in my bacup files so I can at least stick'em back in there. My point to all this is, if the crewman can say "yes sir", then dang it, he can say "Man the bloody Flak gun!". Even if it's a bug, this should be able to be fixed because the speech is responding, just with the wrong file. :timeout: There are other speech files that are there that have never been operational and I don't expect them all to come around, but the precious few that did work, we don't want to lose. This is my essay for the week. No grading please.:O: I may ask someone to post the two ogg files if possible if I cannot find them. EDIT: I found them. All the original speech files (it seems anyway). So we'll see if I can enable at least the ones we've heard before. Thanks :D D40 |
Let us know how you go.

I did find the missing files. What was even more interesting was that I clicked on the "Man the Flak Gun" Wav or Ogg...whatever it was, and the file played in Media player as I expected. What I didn't expect was it also triggered the extra sounds that play for the mod I have set up. Now, I am using the 'pacific sound mod' (which I think is excellent by the way) and I'm sure it triggered from that mod. My point is, that the sound file is already to go, there is a screwed up menu file or something just as simple diverting the proper sound. Yes, it has everything to do with a rush job on the 1.5 U-Boat upgrade. When I look at these files, they are all intertwined. I'm surprised there are not more problems than this. So, my daily search is to find the file that triggers the order. I see the 'Command' cfg file has the order, but it does not seem to contain the info to the sound byte. So, simply, I'm starting from scratch. From the bottom up, I have to find the file that brings the order (button) to the sound file. Hope that makes sense, it's really early in the morning here. So the search goes on... Cheers D40 |

I sometimes get the "yes sir's" after other orders too such as 'battlestations'. I also used to get neverending "ship spotted"s too, now that was really annoying, havn't noticed it in a while though; maybe a v1.5 fix? Anyway I'm glad you've got the patience to look into it! |

which was one of the magic numbers. (the reason the files are so long is that they contain sound effects after the initial order. More on that in a minute. Save to say, it didn't work. So, I'm going to edit the files down to simply "Manthe deck gun" and cut it there, so the files will be no more than 3 secs or so at most. It may still be the time limit problem. The Man the deck/flak gun files , (in fact most of the files I'm seeing) are for the U-Boat campaign. My last try will be to install 1.4 again, grab that speech folder, then upgrade to 1.5 again and copy the files or simply replace the speech file comepletly. I don't know...as long as I keep getting ideas I'm OK. It's when I run out of them, then I'll be sore. You know,....I can't even find the "yes sir" sound file?! That's weird. Cheers D40  |

But... there's something fishy going here..:hmmm: All the files you're missing, I've got. Yet, we've both got the same bug. http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/3223/yessirj.jpg I currently have No mods activated. What gives? |

troopie, do you have the u-boat missions installed (1.5)?? This is supposed to be a 1.5 bug. But why?? I do know that the ogg files are a mess after installing the 1.5 upgrade. However, I can't see that it would be an .exe issue. I am hoping that it's some files that are messed up and can be replaced, including any menu or cfg, anything that would mess this up. What I may do if I get desperate, is reinstall to 1.4. Grab all the files I would think are neccessary, then upgrade to 1.5 and patch in old files until something happens (like a crash:O:), that's why I want to know if you have the u-boat add-on installed. If you don't then all that would be a waste of time. Anyway, tell me if you have 1.5, I think you had said that you do, I just want to make sure. D40  |
Aye, I do indeed have 1.5(UBM) all 'round. Unfortunately I don't have access to my old dvd's at the mo to try a rollback, but would be quite interesting.
Did u ever get the incessant "ship spotted"s ? |
