Guidance on A.I. detection ranges in varying conditions

I recently returned to SH after (in the past) attempting and succeeding in navigating the minefield of tweaks and mods that SH5 required to become playable.

After many people recommended SH3 and the great mods available (and as I also owned a copy of the game) I decided to give GWX a try....great job BTW guys and also added some mods etc etc....my current mod list follows

GWX - English Nav Map and Grid Refs
GWX - Alternative Flotillas
Aces Hi Res Uniforms and Medals Mk 2
GWX - No Medals on Crew
GWX - Main movie - 'Das Boot'
GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects
No continuous 'Ship spotted' V1.2 for GWX3
Q Ship mod GWX3.0
torpedo trail and wake fix
Merchant_Fleet_Mod_3.2
PATO_3000
RealDC_1
MaGui 3.4
Widescreen MaGui v3.4
Rbs1_SH4_Effects_GWX_30_71
Blue Night Filter
Conus' Historically Accurate U-boat Emblems 1.3
Sobers 3D waves
OLC's Modified Searchlight Beams for GWX3
ANZACMICKS WEATHERED TYPE VII
Torpedo damage Final ver2.0
Waterstream+Exhaust Combi V2.3 for GWX3
GWX - 20km Atmosphere (Unofficial Mod)
Thomsen's Sound Pack V3.2cg
GWX - Late War Sensors Snorkel Antennas
WB's Renown Replacement

The above includes the 4GB fix, the resolution fix and also SH3 commander with the MFM ship skins loaded via SH3 commander.

Now, my question is this...what sort of detection ranges do the A.I. have in various weather conditions? I have been attempting the four bearings method and on surfacing and moving for the final bearing, have been spotted by the target ship more than once.

What ranges can they see you in perfect conditions day and night? and how is this affected by deteriorating weather? I can find no definitive answers in the forums or documentation and am aware that some of the mods enabled may have affected these values.

I am running at 90% realism (just can't bring myself to disable the external camera....love watching the eye-candy too much)

My thanks in advance for all comments.

p.s. any comments on my mod list are welcome

I might be mistaken here..
Detection ranges are mainly determined by the surface area you present to your target - IOW, Side-On (bearing 90 or 270) presents a larger 'visual' or asdic area than facing directly (bearing 0 or 180).

From here there is a reduction in % with regard to range, weather, light conditions and maybe other factors like blind crew members. Over a certain threshold, and you're (or they're) detected.

I think there is also a time limit for detection and loss of contact.

The scenario is not perfect by no means, and can be darn right stupid. This is why you have to play Captain and crew at the same time.
