Jimmy Savile: Gary Glitter arrested over sex offences

The BBC's Tim Reid said police have confirmed they "have today arrested a man in his 60s in connection with the investigation"

Former pop star Gary Glitter has been arrested on suspicion of sex offences by police investigating Jimmy Savile abuse claims.

He was released on bail until mid-December, after being questioned at a London police station.

Glitter, 68, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was jailed in Vietnam in 2006 for child sex offences.

Police are investigating allegations TV star Savile sexually abused some 300 young people over a 40-year period.

Met Police confirmed officers from Operation Yewtree had "arrested a man in his 60s in connection with the investigation".

"The man, from London, was arrested at approximately 0715 on suspicion of sexual offences. The individual falls under the strand of the investigation we have termed 'Savile and others'."

Scotland Yard has said it is following about 400 lines of inquiry as part of the operation - which is looking into claims Savile, who died last year aged 84, abused hundreds of young girls and some boys.

No real surprises there, another jail sentence in the works for Glitter perhaps. The only surprise is it took this long to arrest Glitter, and this long for the Saville story to make it to Subsim.

Personally, I have my doubts about some of the claims, I mean over 300? That's on a virtually industrial scale, more likely that some have smelt blood in the water and know that Saville can't defend himself since he is dead.

I don't envy the cops that have to dig through this mess. :yep:

That he had to crawl into prison was previously known, but I agree that it is a lot more involved than he, of course, it's a big mess in an investigation, hardly a desirable position in the first place victims, and judgment involved in this.

Indeed, there will be a lot of heightened emotions involved in this, despite the years that have passed, and the BBC is going to face a very rough road if all the names come out. The thing is, society now is far different to society in the 1970s and 1980s, one just has to look at the BBCs 'Life on Mars' to realise that, and as a female worker in a male dominated environment it was almost expected that you would, at some point in your career, suffer some form of sexual harassment, be it a grope, a sexually related joke at your expense, or even in extreme cases attempted rape. Fighting back against this was so difficult that many women chose not to, but those that did eventually paved the way to the more equal manner in which women are treated in the work place in todays society.

Rgr that and pretty old news to Brits I should imagine.

Ows about that?

I guess he did not learn from his Vietnamese prison sentence for the same thing.

Little boys...

This confirms my belief, that there is no reforming people like this. This crap happens all the time in America. Sex offenders in most cases serve less time than drug offenders.

I think what we are being to see here is a group of celebrities who for many years practiced/performed a seroes of sickening crimes on vulnerable young people....there is probably a lot more to come out into the public arena.

soopaman2 10-29-12 07:43 AM

He was in a Vietnamese jail for the same thing.

Little boys..

These people are unable to be rehabilitated. It happens so much here in America, people re-offending, despite lists of sexual predators released to the community.

I seen people get more time for selling pot, than what they give these damned treejumpers.

Lets hope the UK is not as enamoured by this mans wealth and illustrious (sarcastic) music career as the Viets were.

Acts like this rob the childhood of the victims.
It forces them to understand actions (sexual actions before sexual maturity or interest) of people they were taught to entrust (adults) It is the greatest betrayal. No child is ever the same after this. It betrays our entire socialogical infrastructure. It outright betrays our societal structures of trust in our elders.

I am agitated. I am sorry I cannot express myself better.

I hope I did not seem to be rambling, this just makes me bitter...

Gerald 10-29-12 08:21 AM

U.K. will not let this lightly :nope:
