Whoopsy

The USN seems to be having some steering issues of late.

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The Pentagon said late Saturday that it is investigating why a Navy submarine collided with an Aegis cruiser during routine operations at an undisclosed location. The U.S. Fleet Forces Command said in a news release that the submarine USS Montpelier and the Aegis cruiser USS San Jacinto collided at about 3:30 p.m. No one was injured, and the extent of any damage to the vessels ..

We don't have enough vessels to run the risk of a collision so we just run them aground:

I don't know Jim, we seem to be pretty good at finding the French:

This is old news, but regarding the 'Astute':

"The channel that runs underneath the Skye Bridge has red and green buoys known as lateral markers to ensure vessels do not run aground.
HMS Astute appeared to be lying in shallow water several hundred metres beyond that safe route. The Admiralty charts show submerged rocks in the area where the submarine has got into difficulty."

I really had to laugh - was there some time ago, and you really really should follow the buoyed channel in this area, even if you only are a small 42-feet sailing ship ..
It can get very foggy there though, but even then, navigating with old DECCA or new GPS you would never miss this. I do not think any sub would go there voluntarily surfaced or submerged, for sea or SEAL trials ?

Also, HMS Trafalgar ran aground off Skye in 2002 - surely difficult waters to navigate, but ..

Greetings,
Catfish

As I said....we simply find it easier to run them aground :)
