HELP NEEDED WITH EXPANDED NAVIES MOD
I have recently released my very first mod for silent hunter 5, Expanded Navies (Link in my signature). This mod takes units from some navies and adds them to others. Many of the units are being used as stand ins for other units. Any help from experienced 3D modellers, making new ships, would be highly appreciated.
The units most needed are: Bretagne class battleship Dunkerque class battle cruiser Bathurst class corvette Leander class cruiser River class frigate Wilhelm Gustloff liner Draug class destroyer Thank you for your time! |
Here are some more:
Aquila class aircraft carrier Gangut class battleship Just one or two of these would be nice. Any contributers will be fully credited. The priority is with the Bretagne battleship and Leander cruiser.:salute::salute::salute: |

Only a few talented modders were capable of creating new naval units for SHIII and IV. You have also to take in mind that the GR2 format used by SH5 is still being investigated and, though looking promising, its respective editor got limited functions, being still under development by our TDW. Luckily, several months ago it has been discovered that units coming from the previous titles of the SH seres can be converted to work, to some extent, in SH5. Waiting for a full conversion of them to GR2 format, many existing dat units have been "adjusted" to be handled by our game. Though being a tedious and tricky work, this partial conversion process is by far easier than creating new units. Many, if not all of the SHIII-IV dat units converted so far for SH5, are featured in Open Horizons II by Trevally and in Mehr Traffic, Nationen und Schiffe by Uekel. My suggestion for you is having a look at those mods, and see if by any chance they got some of the ships you are looking for. If not, you can still try and see if they were ever released for SHIII-IV, get in touch with their own authors for asking permission to use them in SH5, and then learn how to convert them. I am sure you will get full support from our community on any techical advise you might require for doing it. For a start, a good place for your research of extra units, is the download section of this website: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...p?do=cat&id=79 http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...p?do=cat&id=77 I wish you good luck  |
Should I find time to finish it?

...and as you are at it, don't forget your unfinished milkcow :D |
Due to an economic windfall?
I'm ordering a new NoteBook. That will determine further work on many projects. :yep: A GOOD Friend here at Subsim helped me limp along by sending me a computer that was good enuff to do somethings. He knows who he is and that's all I have to say about that. :D As I travel alot? I needed a new NoteBook. I have my eye on a 17" screened NBook with a dedicated 1GB VideoCard. |
WOW! that Bathurst class looks AMAZING!!!
Thanks, gap, for the links. They will come in handy! |
So, how do you convert a SHIII/IV unit into a SH5 unit?

There's this basic tutorial redacted by Rongel a while back, but I would suggest you to go through the whole thread, since it got many scattered information. Another good source of experience is opening inported unit's files in Silent 3Ditor (often shortened as s3d on this forum) and comparing them with either SHIV or stock SH5 units. By the way, s3d is the main tool you will be using for inporting ships. Once you get accustomed with the basics of the importing process, you might want to go a step forward, replacing some of the old controllers for various FX around the ship with SH5 ones. But for doing it you will need another tool, called goblin editor. My suggestion is not to bother with those aspects right now. At the very beginning the learning curve can be step , but don't give up: the more you learn, the easier will be understanding the rest. |
