Weird Links

What's with all the random words turning into links? There are some pretty odd ones. I've actually gone back and edited a couple of my posts to get rid of them.

Very annoying.

Dowly 08-31-12 06:30 AM

Haven't noticed anything, myself. :hmmm:

Can you give an example?

Herr-Berbunch 08-31-12 06:52 AM

Me neither. :hmm2:

Every now and then a word or phrase will be underlined, seemingly at random. If I hover the cursor over it, it says "Powered by Text-Enhance". Clicking on it takes me to a variety of different places, also seemingly at random.

In Haplo's post (#17) in the line "It is not an extraordinary claim", "claim" is a link, and I don't think he put it there. I've noticed it in some of my own posts, and it annoyed me so much that I edit the post until it's gone.

[Edit] Funny, it made a link here, but here it takes me to the thread, and if I use that link the link there is gone. If I go there the usual way the link takes me here https://www.quibids.com/en/landing/index.php?mb=5or&sub.

It's all very strange. And annoying.

Dowly 08-31-12 10:13 AM

There's no link in the Haplo's post for me.

Upon further diggin' around, it does look like it's malware. :hmmm:

Hope it helps! :salute:

I'm getting them also. I thought it was on the forum end so I kinda just ignored them. And yeah Steve I to would edit my post to remove those words.:haha:

Thanks for the link Dowly, I just tried it. Hope nothing blows up.:O:

Steve...that is precisely what was happening to me about a month ago and I suspect you can't remember us discussing it on Skype.

Strange as it may sound I simply went to program files and uninstalled it.

Sailor Steve 08-31-12 02:27 PM

It never occured to me that it migh be on my end. I checked my Program Files and there's nothing with that name to uninstall. Now I'm getting one in my own sig. I'm running a malware-fighter. We'll see what happens.

Sailor Steve 08-31-12 02:49 PM

Well, MalWareBytes found a bunch of stuff (I really should run it more often), but Text-Enhance wasn't one of them. I tried the link for removing it but when I went into Tools and Manage Add-Ons it wasn't there. I checked my Program Files and found nothing with that name. I haven't been back long enough to see if it's still doing it.

I followed the instructions as per Dowly's link and found two extensions that I did not install, at least not intentionally. I use Google Chrome. Anyway I disabled them and the problem seems to be gone.

Yes Steve I've even seen them in peoples sigs including yours. I just thought it was a SUBSIM scam. Sorry Neal, for even thinking that. :haha:

Thanks for bringing this up Steve. As a computer illiterate I would never have known and was afraid to ask. And thanks again to Dowly for the helpful link.

Dowly 08-31-12 06:31 PM

No problem, glad it helped.
