Requesting mission....or not?
I started a new campaign recently after losing all my saved games and I'm wondering this :
I just requested the 100K tonnage sink mission which takes place west of Britain in the celtic sea, and I noticed that "Blocade of germany" is also on map up north although I haven't request it. Now my experience is that the english channel south of London will become increasingly difficult to go through. Since I might end up going the long way north up and around the island then back down south to the celtic sea, I might see some Armed merchant ships that I'd like to sink "while I'm there", hoping it will contribute to the mission objectives of "Blocade of germany". Not mentionning that the aircraft carrier also roams in the same zone than the 100k tonnage mission. If a mission appears on the map, do you have to request it in order for you to start contributing to it's objectives? |
No, you can start doing it anyway. The progress bar will move across as you meet the requirement. If you finish one and part of another when you return to port the progress bar will still be partially completed when you officially accept the mission later.
You could actually do both now and just rearm over and over and not return to dock until they are both done but I like to advance the date by docking after refitting once and spending all my torpedoes. I don't like finishing all my quests with 6-8 month to spare and then not have any missions until then. I know I can just go patrol wherever I want till then but without official orders I tend to fart around and not accomplish much. |

If you go North to go around GB's east coast instead of using the Channel, may I suggest stopping in at Scappa Flo. Swing really wide to the south and then west of the island when you come in from the SE entrance below Scappa Flo. This way you avoid the destroyers on patrol. Nail the Battleship and Tankers then escape out the northernmost channel to the North Atlantic. The destroyers won't follow you, and if you go at 1 knot/Silent Running you're home free. I've done it in practice and got away scott free. :D
Good luck and Happy Hunting. :salute: |
That's very interesting. I'll be sure to stop there for some fireworks next time.
Oddly enough, after reading your suggestion, I've searched this on the forum and a lot of people seem to get CTD after blowing up some stuff and escaping from there. |

Awww EXCELLENT. Crawling up into ports and wrecking up some hardware is a favorite hobby of mine

The off-gasing of the batteries must have been a lot of fun to deal with as well. :dead: |
