A question regarding Mods

Hello guys,I would like to ask you for your opinion on this:

I have SH3 installed from the disk(1.4v If I am not mistaken).
I see there are various modpacks and improvements around here and I am struggling to understand what version of the game I need to have before installing some of those.

Actually it would be great if someone could recommend few of those "Basic" improvements which are a must-have for starters.
(What I seen from videos and tutorials is different(better looking) interface, graphics both inside and outside and few more handy tools in navigation map...

Thanks! :)

I am only familiar with one super mod package that is the GWX 3 Gold. It includes one fix that is absolutely essential unless you like allied convoys with ships carrying Storm Generator equipment spewing out fog thick as concrete and a life threatening amount of rain non stop for weeks from the US to Liverpool (ask me how I know :/\\!!). Yep, the weather fix is essential for any fun gameplay. Other than that, the GWX 3 Gold includes some other real nice goodies too. SHCommander is also a real neat tool for tweaking as well as adding a bit of atmosphere outside the game.

Thanks Von Due

I was really looking forward for answers like this.
One thing: It is no problem that I put this GWX3 right away, before having a certain patched up version?

IIRC, you will need the 1.4 patch which you seem to have. It's all there on their site. A clean install, patched to 1.4, install gwx and add the mods you want after that. It really couldn't be any easier.

Welcome to Subsim Vjeran.

Just a thought, but you may want to play one or two missions using stock SH3 patched to 1.4b as you have... so you are able to get a feel for how much and what has been changed/added by GWX.

Sink'em ALL!!! :arrgh!:

Exactly what I did in last few days :)

I was looking to refresh on my past times when I played SH.It worked pretty well,I was trying to master the controls and features using 100% realism,I think thats the right way...
