The Pirate Bay Blocked by Sonera in Finland
Another ISP bends over under recording industry's pressure... achieving nothing yet again.

I read it's mostly banned by UK ISPs too, although some such as BT aren't chasing the new IP addresses like some (Virgin).
Not that I ever use it. |
Another ISP called DNA followed suit. It would be really nice if someone explained media corps and courts that this doesn't have much real effect. Almost always there is way circumvent this kind of blocks and when its not practical someone else will take closed pirate sites place. Its just same thing with child pornography - this kind of action just sweeps the problem under the rug out from public's eye. In background its just business as usual and has no significant effect.

The first 2 days of blocking saw TPB traffic from the UK drop by 20%, it's now, thanks to so many proxy sites, back to full traffic. :arrgh!: Yeah, I've used & use it. Heck I think we even had GWX available through TPB or Demonoid at one point. Delusional authorities still believe that cutting off supply will cure 'pirating', it won't. |

At best this will stop the casuals
My ISP in China (a ministry of education run ISP) tried everything to block porn But Alas, they failed. When I'm in china, I have a scheme so elaborate, that there is absolutely NO way ANYONE can block me now. I thought I beat the "System", until I attended a security conference where the mastermind behind the anti-porn system gave a talk. The guy just said, that even with their best efforts, they can only block the 99%. They believe they can take down the "less skilled" 99% of the 1% (aka, 0.01%) through police action and lawsuits. For the last 0.01%, the guy joked, they put in so much effort in getting porn that the effort is better spent be picking up girls. What I am trying to say, is that of course there are ways around censorship. The whole idea is not to combat the "elite", but to limit the 99%. |
Well here's a shocker: The block doesnt work, says Master of Laws Pekka Savolainen. :88)
Finnish article: http://www.tietokone.fi/uutiset/pira..._ei_ole_hyotya Savolainen's 249 page paper: https://aaltodoc.aalto.fi/handle/123456789/7558 (Summary in English, paper in Finnish) The basic gist according to Savolainen is that it is about politics, not about trying to effectively stop piracy. The service providers are trying to complain, but are not getting through. Who would have known? :O: |
Netflix and such streaming services cost ~8 euros/month. Repertory could be bigger though. Spotify has ~15 million songs for 5 euros/month. Kim dot com can suck my balls.

Oh no, my favorite site!!:wah:
