Huffing Freon by Pregnant woman
 

Sorry Guys, I just have to vent. I know there is nothing anyone here can do, but I gotta get this off my chest and I will try not to use profanity.

I just found out that a 20+ year old friend of The Frau's idiot daughter is huffing freon from the air-conditioner where she lives. She is about 4-5 months pregnant.

Can any one explain to me what the <expletive deleted> is going on with this kid's brain? What part of 4 months pregnant with a human fetus is not clear to this woman?

How can someone's life be that bad that they feel they need to huff freon? I have lived through some crappy times as I am sure many of you have. But I never would have considered doing anything like this.

In looking at the toxicology of Freon, I am not getting what advantageous thing this could do to you to make life temporarily better?

I am angry, but mostly confused. I know that I am an old fart, but I just don't get it.

kids of my generation are frankly stupid when it comes to sex and reproduction. They wanna have babies and keep them, but they still wanna party, and live like nothing happened and do destructive things to their bodies and kids lives. It's sick really. Call child protective services. it's not right and I don't care If you tattle tale, if she truly wants a child then she needs to be accountable or someone has to MAKE her be accountable.

also, it's not about her having a bad life (although getting knocked up is pretty crappy) I'm sure she's had the habit for a while (undoubtedly her lifestyle had also likely partially caused her unplanned pregnancy) and she is simply continuing what she has always done with no regard to the new life she has so brazenly created

Venting is good. The ony problem that remains is in trying to find an answer for the young womans senseless actions, and generally the answer is there isn't really an answer as its senseless.
Hence the venting which is good as it eases some of the anger and frustration even though the anger and confusion remain.

Life is a bugger of a cycle isn't it.

Whoa, that is really stupid. Think about the poor, unborn child or maybe it should be her thinking about it. People really do make poor decisions. :/\\!!

Maybe she just wants to kill the foetus, I have seen stranger things in my time and nothing surprises me anymore..

Sorry for the lame joke attempt in a serious topic, sometimes a cynical laughter is all we have.

Since CFC's are no longer common, my uneducated guess would be that she is huffing some kind of substitute - something like Propane, which gives people a buzz for a few minutes.

As huffing seriously destroys brain cells among adults, it is a even more serious prob for the baby - increased chances of brain damage are definitely there.
Since you don't seem to have the best relationship with you Frau's daughter, it doesn't look like you can do anything on that part, like talking her into convincing her friend to look for professional help. What the girl does to what's left of her brain is her problem, but given the level of addiction that she does damage to her unborn, it would be the best if she gets into rehab at least till the child is born. As you are one of the people who knows about it, this certainly puts you into some kind of morale pressure now - I do not want to switch with you atm.

I dunno, kinda. I just think my generation is especially ignorant when it comes to choosing to "step up" when they are faced with an unplanned pregnancy. I personally have known girls who are still partying in college when their parents stay home and care for the grandchild. and the list goes on. I dunno it just seems like there are a lot of VERY young "families" recently

Well she is not huffing CFCs she was huffing HCFCs R-22 or Chlorodifluoromethane this is what they will do to you http://www.inchem.org/documents/icsc/icsc/eics0049.htm .

People huff to get a cheap easy high it reduces the oxygen to their brains and makes them feel high.Some people will huff any type of spray can paint or the air cans for cleaning of electronics but they started putting a bittergant in those so people will huff cans of whipped cream.People also huff model glue and white out that was very popular when I was in high school thye would paint lines on a sheet of paper and sniff it I even saw kids huff markers.I think it boils down to parenting my parents would think such things are stupid and foolish and I never wanted to be stupid or foolish. Of course huffing anything means that you run the risk of suffocating yourself this is much more likely with an A/C system do to the amount of refrigerant because of the amount that could leak out (all that is in the system).Now the up side is maybe this girl is really really stupid and thinks that the "good stuff" just comes right out of the vent if you are close enough which it does not.

For this girl it is nothing new at all I would suspect.And there is nothing that you can do about it I have a friend that wanted to report a woman abusing drugs while pregnant to the state they said "nothing we can do about that".So do not worry about is all I can say because there is not a thing that really anyone can do about it and what would they do put the girl in jail unless she is watched 24/7 nothing will stop her anyway.I think if you are a known drug abuser they should sterilize you so that you can not harm people that can not protect themselves surely this would cost governments less money in the long run.

@Gimpy117 every generation has an equal share of turds it just depends on who you are around and if these kids that you know are having kids and not taking life seriously and the grandparents are taking care then I blame the grandparents they failed to instill good values in their children.Just look at the statics the highest rates of teenage pregnancy was in the 1950s which always makes me laugh we people say "this is it not the fifties any more things are different now".

Evidently the police visited her last night. I guess she has other "issues". We heard that she is going in to rehab, so maybe there is a chance for the baby.
