Questions before I buy SH5
Hi All. I've been playing SH4 for years now and I was exited to here that SH5 was in the works back in what? 2009? I was very disappointed to hear that the game was so glitchy as to be unplayable. Then I heard that the great modding community was basically recoding the entire game to make it what it should have been when the so called "pros" released it. (Think I heard that on Xplay)
I was wondering if the game has truly been "fixed"? I also see there is a gold version. So if it was made playable should I get standard or gold? Another question is regarding digital versions. I am notorious for misplacing disks and when I finally do find them; they have been under or behind my desk and are found scratched beyond repair. So I have been getting all the games I can as digital downloads but I hear they're are problems with them and modding. I have never experienced this (knock on wood) my SH4 is digital from D2D and never had a problem. I really want to try SH5 but all the bad reviews and the multiple mods make me unsure if I should risk buying it. It may be only $15 but the gold is $40 and I'm disabled on a fixed income so I have to watch every penny and I can't afford to waste my money on garbage software. So is it worth the risk and if so what mod is considered THE one to use? I know that in SH4 there were a lot of "what if" mods that added stuff that never existed during WW2 or made super torpedoes/nuclear deck guns/submersible battleships and the like which were all fun but I want a more realistic game. Not realistic to the point of needing a slide rule to launch a torpedo just a true to WW2 environment to play in. Thanks guys and as always my eternal thanks to all the modders and all the great mods they make and all the hard work and time they put into them. |
Ahoy Marauder7,
Well for one; I loved SH4 (still do) played it for quite a while. If you really familiar with this series you know never to take the reviews to heart. Someone's going to fix the game. I would get the disk but take care of it, although, getting a replacement game is getting very cheap. There are a couple of threads dealing with the question, Yes or No. I for one also loved SH3 and the idea of roaming the Atlantic in a u-boat. When you get the game you'll play the tutorial mission, you can't have mods installed for the tutorial. This will give you a good idea what the game was like before the mods. After the mods, well, I've never seen anything like this, especially if you have even a decent computer. You can get the game cheap, why even ask, just jump in. Gute Jagd! D40 |
