The Captain's Cabin

Well it is not really a cabin but I like it there.

When playing the game, my machine is near enough to my real bed for me to run my earphones to.

Then when I am dived and have my hydrophone guy searching for targets or cruising on surface with good officer on deck on lookout ,I go to my "cabin" whilst I lie on my real bed, read a book and listen to the 30's/40's music I downloaded and run on random (thanks to SM3 Commander) until called to bridge.

Much better than saving the game and wasting time.

My version of the Captain's cabin is a bit more mundane. Sometimes I go periscope depth, TC 1 and put a wireless headphone on. Then I can walk about the house and do all these disgusting things one needs to do like wash the dishes and laundry -but still be aware, if the sound man reports a contact.:ping:

If only the wife would accept me talking to her with headphones on. But she finds it annoying if I suddenly dash off to the computer in the middle of a conversation. I even tried introducing her to the game, but she is a different kind of a nerd than me. :wah:

I'm waiting for the day when they can connect SH3 to sunglasses, like a heads-up-display kind of thing. Then I could sometimes try what a patrol made mostly at TC 1 would feel like. I would be on the beach or shopping and at work, yelling sound commands to my microphone: "Alarm! Crash dive" and "Open Torpedo tube 1" etc. :D

With the help of autohotkey you can let the hydrophone constantly sweep 360° around in small steps independent of your input. Submerge to PD or to 40m (to avoid aircrafts), stop the engines, put on your headphones, go to bed and listen for new contacts ;) A perfect simulation.

I just pretend my whole flat is the sub. My kitchen is the galley etc, etc. I have two speakers running from the living room (command room) to other parts of the flat so that I can always hear what's going on. I'm in the process of building a periscope housing a monitor which will allow me to do a 360 degree sweep whilst looking at periscope view of the game. Autohotkey is fab! It has allowed me to use voice commands without needing to touch the keyboard.

Oh my Lord reading about you guys, you are totally obsessed :-) BRILLIANT!

Hahaha, and I thought I was way out there with the computer hooked up to the stereo and listening to the game while working around the house. Nothing quite gets your heart pounding when danger is in coming and you're running through the house to review the situation and adjust accordingly. No other game has ever put that kind of fear in my blood!:03:

Mostly play on Sunday here, carving the roast generally interrupts my patrol. Can't count how many times I've thought.... I'll leave TC at x1 no harm will come of that for 15 minutes........ Shows how wrong you can be :D Oh and welcome aboard Nicolai :salute:

I'll never understand why people leave the game unattended at x1.
15mins is 900s that takes less than 8 seconds at x128, why take all that risk to save yourself 8 seconds?

I agree. I pause the game any time I get out of my chair, and run at a reasonable TC all the time I'm in it.
