Current career
Patrol 1
I left Pearl Harbour headed to the marshall islands to patrol. When i reached there without any hostile contacts i patrolled there. After finding no ships I headed north to wake island were i crawled across the harbour bottom to try and find a docked target. The harbour was completely deserted and so i decided to head home. No doubt the crew wasn't happy that we hadn't sunk any ships. |
Started off in Jan '42, USS Narwhal.
So far, I'm on my 3rd patrol, from Brisbane and heading for the Solomons. About halfway, I find a Task Force with 3-5 destroyers, 1 Mogami, 2 Escort Carriers and a Fleet Carrier. Only knew about them because of radar :woot: My 1st patrol went horribly, after harbour raiding Bangkok, took major damage in a gun battle, then another inside the harbour after being forced to surface. Got home, and told to get a new sub, so I'm stuck with an S-18. 2 days into my 2nd patrol, I find out my 'scrapped' sub is sinking Maru's in the South China Sea :/\\!!:/\\!!:/\\!!:/\\!!:/\\!!. Update:- I got one of the flat tops :woot: |

I use RSRD. I start out of Manila and attack one of the many invasion forces, refit before Manila falls, attack other invasion force and head to
Surabaya. In Feb I head to the strait near Timor, late Feb off the coast of Java for the large jap invasion. 1942 will find me in the Solomons partaking of all the large and small battles. 1943, hang out around the Truk to Home Waters shipping lanes. 1944, mostly Palawan and Formosa shipping lanes. 1945, Korea Straits. Also try to do as many battles as possible. I hardly ever go to my patrol zone. |
Looking for love in all the wrong places

This sounds pretty good. How do you find the battles? I always try to put myself where the battles are taking place based on what I can read about them on the internet, (the battle of the coral sea, for example) but can't seem to find them. One time I did manage to catch about five destroyers attacking the new sub tender in the solomons, and witnessed the sub tender and harbor patrol boats fight a gallant but loosing battle. It was cool but the only time I've been able to find surface ships fighting. ( I did my part by putting two tin cans on the bottom by the way  ) Do you know times and approximate coordinates? -thanks |
Thx steve thats good I was new here when this was posted so i didn't find this one

With All Guns Blazing!
Today I started my first campaign with limited everything and manual torpedo's. So I leave for the Celebs Sea from Manila even though in the Luzon Straight and came within two meters of beaching the S 34 onto a sandbar that you have to be on almost max magnification to see. Its at 119 40 E, 5 50 N to see what I mean. Ran into nothing at all on that patrol and headed to Java port and ended the patrol with all my fish, 1/4 tank of gas and a very frustrated commander. The second patrol went much better as they put me up in the Luzon Straight and I had a party. The first thing I came across I shot off a torpedo by accident which missed, then two more on purpose that missed and one dud. In anger I surfaced the boat and sunk the bastard with the deck gun. Who needs torpedo's anyway right? I passed the same sandbar on my way due to changing course to engage the ship so I took a picture. Continued on up and found a lone composite freighter which again, misfired one torpedo while again attempting to use the height gauge, but the other two hit it right in the nose, though I did have to surface and pelt it with shells to make it go down. First torpedo hit though manually. I try to get the speed before I engage the target because I have no idea how the TDC does it, though because I use metric I have to convert. I also try my hardest to keep my patience with getting a new ship. I like the S boats and all but not having aft torpedo's and a surface speed of 10 knots makes getting places take forever. I do like the mark 10's though. Very straight shooting. I had a mark 14 swing round and hit me once and that was it for me.

You should try using the english system. It really isn't any harder. |

Thanks for the reply's. I'm using TMO2.5. Too bad about the scripted battles, I would love to be around if two of the opposing task forces ever mixed it up. |

It's something to shoot and have only the chronometer indicate when the hits should come, then if they do getting to drift up to periscope depth in time to see the bow slip under the waves. Also there are some good clips on you tube that illustrate these methods. they helped me out a-lot. |
Yes, many different techniques are used. Manual targeting is, IMO, what makes SH 4 more than just another computer game. :yep: |
