My quick trip to Germany
I got to meet up with a couple Subsim members this weekend in Dusseldorf, Dan D and Penguin!
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=196302 I thought I better wear "the shirt" for this important occasion. ;) http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/pict...pictureid=5768 |
Been following the thread and looks like you had a great time.
Top marks to Dan D and Penguin for the hospitality shown to Neal (in the finest SubSim tradition). Now...a close up of that infamous shirt :O: http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/1274/img0419c.jpg |
For some reason, that picture makes me hungry...:hmmm:
|
Crikey, how much did you win, Neal? :hmmm:
:O: |

Enough not to be self conscious about dressing like that in public! :) |

It was very nice to meet Dan and Neal in person and hang around with them:up:
Dan told me about the (in-)famous shirt and its history when we spotted Neal. Well, I don't think it's bad - but I have no taste anyway :O: And compared to the people running around the streets in Düsseldorf that evening - guys dressed in wedding dresses, animal costumes and other weird stuff - we were 3 super-models! However it looks like I have glued Prince Charles' ears onto my head in that pic. |

Jim and Steed apparently only made it to the airport: http://translate.google.de/translate...894394&act=url :D |
Like Neal, I would like to thank Penguin very much for being such a great host. You, Sir, are truly an original. It was also nice to meet your friends ***8222;Rat, Mozart, Aldi, Atze and Lumpi***8220; etc. and to listen to punk rock music until 4:30 a.m. I very much like the ***8222;Black Lips***8220; now and I dedicate this song to our cute waitress who was from Vermont/USA and who served Neal a cooled down ice tea when he asked for it.
Black Lips ***8211; ***8222;Ain't***8220; Comin' Back Walked back to my car following the tram tracks the next morning. I bought a Börek (spinach, feta cheese) which was still warm because it had just left the oven, ate it and headed back home but had to take a 2 hours nap at a parking area on the autobahn because I felt exhausted. |
Haha, yeah, I forgot about the iced tea. :haha: You think with all these restaurants and bars trying to be cool and exotic with their menu, they wouldn't fall down in spasms when a Texan asks for iced tea. Even the Vermont waitress tried to resist: I said, come on, that guy has ice in his drink, you can make tea, I bet you have sugar and lemon in your bar... make some iced tea! :88)
I'll dedicate this song to the taxi driver who picked me up in the middle of the construction zone, where the sidewalks disappeared. |

I've uploaded a lighthouse-shirt pic to the other thread, for the people who want to print one for themselves :)

Well I also wasn't too alive the next day and didn't manage to play baseball like I told my friend - yes the old age (and some hangover :D) Quote:
Favorite dialogue when we left: Waitress: "How do you know a guy from Texas?" Dan: "Is this so unusual to meet an American here" - W:"I have only met about 4 in the whole year I'm here" :o We saw dozens of Americans walking through the town this night alone :), I explained to her that every American knows Düsseldorf because Grandpa Simpson parachuted into the city during WW2. :know: |
