Meanwhile Turkey is allowing arms into Syria for the anti-government forces. Almost like the cold war days again.

If Turkey decides to take direct military action then all of NATO could get dragged in, as per Article 4 of the NATO treaty.

I think you'll find it is actually Article 5 "Armed Attack" of the NATO treaty.
