Iran to build nuclear powered submarine

So Iran wants to build a nuclear powered submarine

I wonder if the do and got some of those, if they become a real threat to the USA?

:hmmm: Any volunteers here for taking that boat (if it realizes) out for "sea trials" one day? Somewhat like Israelis in Cherbourg. :D

I'm sure this will join their fleet of carriers and stealth fighters they claim they are building...

...NOT! :har:

Hmmm - thats only about 2x the size of a Seawolf class.....
Big and Loud in a constrained body of water. Even launching it into the Gulf of Oman would still make it nothing more than a target.

The only good thing for the Iranians about this boat - is that it isn't real.....

You think that submarine would get anywhere near the Atlantic or Pacific ocean?
If it ever materialises in to anything other than war propaganda, it will more likey "mysteriously explode" before it so much as 'starts its engines'. ;)

:har:

Perhaps it will be multi purpose just like the satellite/air conditioner combo that they made a few months back.

It will work just as well as the North Korean rockets do!:DL

Us: Oh no you wont!
Iran: we are going to clone that Drone we captured
Us: Oh no you wont!
Iran: We are not going to build a Nuclear weapon
Us: Oh yes you will!

Theres a damn good pantomime in the making here :hmmm:.....

Of the four just building a nuke would be the easiest by far. It is after all 1940's technology and it doesn't say how unwieldy it might be. The thing could be as big as an Oldsmobile.

It's also the only one of those four technologies that don't have to be deployed in battle in order to achieve it's military objective. Every boomer has it's fast attack hunting it, same thing with stealth fighters and drones, and they must not only survive long enough to attack but also be successful in that attack in order to have any military value. A nuke on the other hand is effective by just sitting in a hidden bunker.

Be positive, it's another target for our subs to shoot at.

I agree, I believe that Iran is perfectly capable of building a nuclear submarine. We need to quit acting like every non-Western nation does not have a clue what they are doing when it comes to building these machines. Sure, they might have a few bumps along the way, but to assume that some of the nations brightest scientist and engineers can not reproduce 60 year old technology is a little arrogant.

Didn't those stories always start with "Once upon a time" and end with "and they all lived happily ever after"

From the little knowledge I have about their old Kilo klass submarine and the knowledge I have about nuclear powered submarine(got mostly my knowledge from here)

I know that a nuclear powered submarine is alot more silence than a old diesel powered submarine. I don't think they would be interesseret in an attempt to increase their patrol area. I think they will stay in or just outside hormuz.

I even believe that such a submarine will be a larger challenge to the americans ASW.

We laugh at it, but I'm 110 % sure that the US government and it's military don't. They take this information seriously.

Question is if they can do it effectively enough...not just another sub but with nuclear propulsion.
You know Iranian F5 and the F18 are both jet air planes.

In noise I think it depends. When diesel boat has to recharge its batteries then yes I agree. Not sure if there is any advantage to either one (in silence) in other situations. Some say diesel boat is more silent (coolant pumps in nuke reactor if non-naturally circulating) and others disagree.
