I also don't know if this thread should be here.

Whoa. That looks cool. How did you find it?

Yeah. :yep:

There is a book and movie forum as well, but movies end up here quite regularly and it's something of a tradition. Either forum is fine.

WHOA! That was weird! I was listening to an album of Medieval music, modern recordings of stuff written in the late 13th century. I paused it and turned on the trailer. The opening dramatic chord of the trailer was in the exact same key as the very old song I had just paused. Made me jump!

The trailer looks good. Of course the trailer also looks exactly like American trailers, same deep powerful voice-over, except for the language. Looks cool though.

Time to polish up the Russian degree.:know:
Another interesting Russian war movie is "The Star."

I recall an article or two about this film on English Russia a few months back mostly about the filming much of the sets and tanks are real they actually filmed the tanks scenes with several real tanks according to the loose translation it seems that some Russian film makers prefer using real sets and objects when they can and CGI only when they need to.There was an article about the sets as well they showed several up close photos and they could almost fool you they built an entire couple of blocks of well... rubble.

I do not think that the director is the same for this film but I have seen the Russian film "9th Company" about VDV troops in Afghanistan and I was quite impressed the combat was very un-Hollywood in other words gritty and realistic no super ridiculous flame of death muzzle flashes no "mommy I,m dying rubbish".This film looks pretty good as well.

The director: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen_Shakhnazarov

youtube clip about the filming in Russian but you get an idea of the effects style they prefer : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxetG...eature=related

They also had a excellent scratch built Tiger tank but it didn't get their on time, so they built one on the chassis of an IS-2.

I also noticed Wikipedia is entirely oblivious to this movie.

That should not be all that surprising Russia,Ukraine and the rest of the former Soviet block countries is actually a very large internet market and there are many sites targeted towards them you will have hard time getting hits on anything on a related topic in Russian in an English search engine your best bet is YouTube.

You can find some very interesting Russian related videos on YouTube or look at some news clips from Russia Today the pro Kremlin Russian news in English network so it does not reflect the feelings of most real Russians just like American news of course a segment about a movie could be found more easily you just need to copy the title in Cyrillic paste it and search but not on Wiki.Try "Russian Protests" in English even on YouTube. Or try "Russian war movies".

By the way the tank in that news clip looks like a Panzer IV Ausf H with the armor skirts I wonder if it is an original or if they made something else look like a Panzer IV.

Ehh, I like dubbing if its done well. Personally i like to WATCH a movie, not READ a movie. I find subtitles distracting.

CaptainMattJ. 05-19-12 03:31 PM

i dont have a problem with subtitles myself. I can watch the action AND read the subtitles, and it turns out to be worth it because it sounds authentic and not some bad russian accent acting.

Stealhead 05-19-12 04:02 PM

Different people different tastes.I prefer original audio with subtitles myself I want to hear a film in its original language and hear the actors any good film I am going to watch a few times anyway.

I have never seen a well dubbed film anyway Das Boot is so much better in German than English dubbed to me it harms the immersion of the film when the actors are not speaking their language.

The king of dubbed movies is ........
