weapons on merchants
 
hi guys,

is it possible to take out search lights and weapons on the merchant
ships with the flak or deck gun. I know you could do it on sh3 but
i havnt had any sucesss on sh5 yet. Has anyone pulled it of themselves ?

I did once I took out a merchants AA guns using my deck gun.

Its very difficult to hit the guns at long rang so you should get in close... Insanely close:D

I also once by accident was able to take out a deckgun on a merchant and after that, I tried to concentrate my fire onto the locations, where deckguns and searclights were placed on enemy ships, but I found it to diffecult and dangerous to use that practice. Therefore I am now back aiming at the ship just above the sea level.

Don't know about the guns, as I recall they only leave those positions when the ship is sinking but I could be wrong, but I can confirm that the searchlights must be made of Unobtainium, because even after a well-directed couple of dozen shots of HE right in the middle of them they refuse to go out.

So I just focus on sinking them instead. It's what the U-Boat is for, after all.

yep, gun crews are tied to the guns so they are there as long as the guns are or if the ship sinks (according to the game).

guns and many other things dont have damage models so the only way they are able to be eliminated is if the platform or other object they are mounted to can be destroyed so you arent blowing up the gun but the mounting platform or object its mounted to so that the gun cant exist without its mount
