SD Set Q
I added a SD set to my boat, and though it's working (cause I get alerts of aircraft) when in the sub the screen has no display.
I'm able to set the range and set it to sweep or focus but when I click on the on/off toggle switch the top of it goes white but does not go to the on position. Also the buttons at the bottom of the screen, I can select between the PPI and A scope but none of the yellow buttons are lit. Any ideas on this guys ? Thanks. |
They didn't include a scope SD Radar that you can view. Just like the 2nd sonar unit, is for looks only, even though subs had 2, and utilized them both especially during combat.

It's just one of those quirks of the game. While I can understand no screen for the SD (it only gives a bearing and that is announced by the crew anyway), I don't understand why they didn't show a blank space for the SJ radar when the sub doesn't have it yet. The SJ (surface radar) eqpuipment is shown in every sub right from the start of the war (before it existed) and yet it doesn't work until later in the war when it was actually introduced into the subs. All that to say that the "blank" radar screens you are seeing are for surface(ship) detection and doesn't work until the kit is invented and available for you to "buy" later in the war. I'm not sure if that was just idleness on the part of the devs. One other pet peeve of mine which you may or may not run into is the dropping off of agenst or marines on an island. If you hear a horrendous grinding sound it is just the dinghy bumping against your sub. They used the same collisions sound file for the dinghy as for all other ships. Incredible but true (and unfixable). Again, just quirky pains of the game that you essentially have to ignore. |

I was aware of that grinding noise from the dingy's, very realistic.
My other peeve is aircraft that catch fire and just keep flying, and fires on ships never seem to grow in intensity |
Bill, here are a couple mods you might like One is a mod for ship and plane fires that does increase the damage effects and if continued burning, will result in the destruction of the ship or plane.
"v1.3: changed the way damage is incurred from fires for ships (to allow flooding to be incurred from them). Added damage from smoke and/or fires to airplanes." http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...ne+fire+damage This one causes water disturbance from depth charges that gives you a few seconds of time where the DDs won't hear you, so if you time it right, or they make a huge run, where they drop a lot of ash cans, you can go to flank speed for about 30 to 60 seconds, and put some distance between you and the attackers, and go silent again.
