Change zoom in GWX 3.0?
I know I've asked this in another thread, but I haven't gotten an answer, so I figured I'd make a dedicated thread about it. Is it at all possible to increase the zoom of the periscopes and uzo from x6 to say x10?

GWX already has the attack periscope set for 10x. It's fairly easy to do, but you have to do it with S3D.

What's the default setting for zoom in vanilla sh3? Edit: I installed S3D and it scares me! I'm not smart enough to figure out how to do all that. |
There are only two settings available, whatever they are set for. In seven years of playing I've never heard of going from 1x to 2x to 3x.
Default stock settings are 1x and 4x for the observation periscope and 1.5x and 6x for the attack 'scope. Real life was 1.5x and 6x for periscopes of the Kriegsmarine and the US Navy, and as far as I'm aware for everyone else. GWX uses 10x on the attack 'scope on the principle that the pixels aren't as clear as real life views, which is true. I switched them back to 6x for my own play. |
Yeah, no one seems to know what I'm talking about. I have no idea if it was a mod that I downloaded or if it was a .cfg file I edited, but I know for sure I was able to change the zoom incrementally.

That's not very historically accurate though, if that's what you want. The search scope was 1x or 6x, and I believe the attack was 1x or 10x only.

They're wrong. As I said, both periscopes were 1.5x and 6x. Those were the only settings.
The British report on the captured U-570: http://www.uboatarchive.net/U-570BritishReport.htm Check pages 31 and 32. And the American report: http://www.uboatarchive.net/U-570ONIReport.htm Pages 36 and 37. |
Actually, they only specified the obs scope, the attack was my guess.
Either way, zoom lens on a scope, not accurate. |
How to switch between zooms?

The 'Tab' key switches between the two zoom levels. Alternately your mouse wheel does the same.
