need help to restore system
Hello everyone,
I played SH4 for years and then got away from it for a while. I have the stock version with no supermods, only some sound mods and a few customized keystrokes. I am running Windows XP Home edition, with NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT with 128 mb . The program ran fine without slowdowns or crashes. The last few nights I have tried to get back into it and have had slowdowns, stoppages and crash to desktop everytime. How can I trouble shoot this problem? Thanks! Joe S |
Try a 64 bit operating system with 8 gigs of ram and a quad 3.6 gig cpu with a 2gb memory card :O:

first, i think you poosted in the wrong forum, this is the sh5 forum so i will move it to the sh4 forum for you.
as to your problem: try making sure your computer hasnt updated to the wrong grafics driver. sometimes windows will install a newer driver that doesnt work correctly with an older outdated card like yours. second, if you are trying to load a saved game then maybe its just corrupted and you will need to delete that save and start over |
Joe, I would speculate that you're running some CPU hungry processes you didn't have when you ran the game before. This is a job for......task manager! It will show you all your running processes and the percentage of CPU resources they take.
Just press ctrl-alt-delete and choose task manager. You can do this at any time. A program I use which ruthlessly terminate unnecessary processes is Game Booster 3 by IObit Software. It's free. Unlike other similar programs (EndItAll), Game Booster stops the processes you want stopped, runs the game and then automatically restarts them when you exit the game. It has diagnostic processes so you can figure out whether it's a good idea to stop a process or not, and it lets you specify what you want to kill or what you want to stay running. It can even kill Windows Explorer itself, restarting it on game exit. No other software has this capability. This will DEFINITELY help you get back to or even better than your experiences of the past.:woot: |
