Jagged Alliance Back In Action

If you haven't played it, PLAY IT

It is a remake (kind of) of Jagged Alliance 2.

Although apart from the story and setting, it is pretty much a completely different game. Almost everything is changed, with the most noticeable change being the removal of the turn based system.

But it is still brutally hard, the battles get really hectic, and it is still amazingly fun!

I pre ordered it and yeah it's fun as the_tyrant says the plan and go system instead of turn based is the big change - it gives you alot more freedom to set up your attacks and coordinate your mercs though ,once you get the hang of it.

Tested it quickly, can't say I like many of the new changes. :-?

I feel like a luddite Fallout fanboy on Bethesda's forum saying this, but: lost pretty much all curiosity right after the bolded part. Gut feeling.

Its nothing like Company of Heroes or Men of War

Trust me, it is still mind-numbingly hard, allbeit in a completely different way.

Is it better than JA2? probably not. the AI and pathfinding is bad, it needs more patches.

However, it is still a fun game, even if there is no more AIM or fog of war

The lack of FoW is a big minus, also hate how you don't hire your mercs for x
amount of days anymore, you just buy them and they stick with you.

I'm not afraid of that: that's why I didn't compare it to anything. As a matter of fact, I love Company of Heroes, but I love it for different reasons than I love Jagged Alliance.

Difficulty is not the point either. The point is that they changed it. I compared myself humorously to the Fallout fanboys who screamed even before Fallout 3 was released "IT SUX BECOS THEY GO CHANGE SUMFINK", but I can't help it in this case: I can't think of Jagged Alliance in any other way than the way it was originally done.

Too many games these days have abandoned such turn based style, whereas the original JA2 still resembles to me at its best a good game of chess, where early moves can determine long term success or failure. It has aged well. Therefore I'm sad to see that they are fixing what wasn't broken in the first place.

FOW is supposed to be coming back as an option in the next patch/update ,(iirc it was originally in the game but it got pulled because the game wasn't "fun" with it on according to the playtesters!)
Can't say I miss the turn's that much ,no more raging while my merc's get gunned down during the militia turn :03:
