Scapa Flow Invincible Troop Carrier
I'm on about my fourth or fifth patrol of the War after hostilities have started, commanding a Type IIA. I've been struggling to get my tonnage up with just 5 torpedoes (some of which are defective anyway), so I've snook into Scapa Flow to have a poke around.
I managed it by hugging the edges, ahead slow silent running and stopping dead in the water whenever a destroyer wanders by, and I've launched several eels at the troop carrier that was moored there. All my fish have detonated in front of the ship by the looks, and I'm wondering, are there any nets in the water in Scapa Flow or am I just having really poor luck? |
Nets shouldn't detonate an eel, although they may stop one. Use External View to zoom in on the ship and see if it migkt be lying alongside a small sea wall. Those seem to be common in SH3 harbors and would definitely detonate your eel.
Often your target will be moored between 2 of them such that your only shot is down the throat or up the skirt. |

In fact I might just cut my losses and get out whilst I'm still alive! |
Also you may have sunk it enough so it's resting on the bottom.

I just took a pre-war visit to Scapa Flow. That troopship is sitting in open water. However, her entire starboard beam to seaward is protected by a submerged torpedo net extending down to the seabed. Neither the net nor its floats is visible from above the surface.
There are no nets directly ahead of her bow nor along the port (shore) side. |
