RIP: Whitney Houston is dead at the age of 48

Just reported.

No details as of yet...

Takeda Shingen 02-11-12 08:44 PM

And so ends what was of late a tragic life. May she rest in peace. In the end, I am afraid that the writing was on the wall.

To bad. One of the really gifted singers in recent history. Pure natural talent. Shame her life unraveled like that. RIP Whitney.

Oberon 02-11-12 09:35 PM

Such a shame, she had one helluva voice behind her...but one helluva troubled life. RIP.

Not really having been a fan of her, but I must admit that her first album and its songs were somewhat iconic for the mid-80s. But she always was a two-faced person: gifted with a relatively good voice and a drive for perfectionism, songs of varied musical quality that sometimes almost abused her voice, and on the human, social level she was not much liked by musicians working with her, for she behaved too much like a diva and a poisenous beast. My father's orchestra once cooperated with her during some event in Berlin - they were happy when she had left again: singing was good, behaviour towards musicians was terrible.

Some good songs remain in memory - and that's it. As Takeda said, the writing was on the wall - since her disastrous attempt for a comeback some time ago at the latest. Almost nobody remains a "star" forever. One should know when one better leaves and then stays away. A good choice of time is to go when the party runs highest.

P.S. The soundtrack for "Bodyguard" also was not bad, had some good tunes.

The key word was had. Drugs and alcohol took its toll on what was a wonderful ability.

48 is too young to die, but she made life choices. She is at peace now.

A rather tragic life story

Terribly tragic but the warning signs were already becoming noticeable.

RIP Whitney

Strange, I had forgotten that she was still alive.
