history question
probably wrong forum for this, but i wonder if anyone know what was the average number of days for shore leave between patrols for the uboat crews?
many thanks:salute: |
I looked and couldn't find anything other than a passing reference that indicated that after cleaning the boat for the repair crews they were pretty free until the next sailing. I would assume that they did have shore duties such as refresher courses in their specialty and learning the newest equipment. My own experience was of having two or three days totally free and the rest involved shipboard duties, study and free time, but on board so never truly free.

thanks Sailor Steve, one other question, how long on average was it between patrols for the uboats, please.
many thanks.:salute: |

This question was lengthily debated in SH3. The consensus was that 28 days in base were the standard for time between patrols.
Of course, adding or upgrading an equipment would extend that time. But what really impacted that time was the repair time of a damaged sub. You could add one or two days per percent of hull damage. As an exemple, you return home with a 85% hull integrity, you would have to wait roughly one month and a half before being able to go on patrol again. In the early time of war. Past winter 42-43 it would have been two months. |
On the other hand it could take a lot less than 28 days to install new equipment. Hull repairs? That's a good question.
One great tool for SH3 which has never been duplicated in other versions is SH3 Commander. One of its functions is to randomize the 'Days in Base' setting, or let you choose one at the click of a switch. Using that I've spent as much as two months in base, or as little as five days. That last one was in a Type II after returning from an empty patrol with all torpedoes still on board. Given that a Type II patrol was usually on the order of two weeks or less, I found that to be entirely believable. |
i really miss sh3 commander, have posted b4 asking if one of the talented modders could make something like this, but no replies.
its a pity, cause it let you see your career stats and medals without having to load the game. |
