A little torpedo maths for manual solutions
Hi
Here's a really easy way to ensure you never miss on a manual solution. Make sure you are using manual targeting and input, and that the TDC is on manual (green button) and that the gyro angle is set to zero. Also, only works when torpedo course is 90 degrees to target course. All you need to know is the target speed. Then do this liitle calculation using velocity vectors: ARCTAN (targetSpeed/torpedoSpeed) This will give you an angle. Turn the periscope to the angle. When the approaching target appears in the crosshairs, fire. The torpedo will be fired foward and continue on that course, and by the time it reaches target course, the target will be there too. Because this technique uses velocity vectors, you don't need to know the range of the target. It works for any range. |
I got a table for fast 90 firing solutions,

Cool. Very handy! It's exactly same principle I see, also based on 90 degree shots.
