If they thought it was in thier national interest, they wouldn't hesitate.
Considering the Chinese just gave Pakistan an ultimatum; "Get a grip on the TIP (radical muslim group responsible for multiple attacks in Sinkiang province), or we will build bases within Pakistan and do it ourselves." the idea is not at all far fetched.
The move would topple the already tottering civilian government.
That being said, I'm not at all convinced the US has anything other than a peripheral role in these deaths, 5 since 2007. With all of the "CIA Agents" being detained by the Iranians recently, you'd think we would no longer have the organization in coutry to carry out these operations. Not to mention the illegality, in US law, of govt. operators killing civilians outside a warzone.
I'm thinking it is mostly local operators, probably with Mossad backing. The current government is none to popular in Iran.
