Thermal Layers??

Back when I was commanding a Fleet Boat in the Pacific in Silent Hunter 4, we had a little trick where-by we would use the temperature gradients in various depths to "hide" behind from enemy sonar.:03:
Why was this not considered in the Atlantic as well? We could really use it sometimes.
Perhaps this is something that we can add?? Or is it not possible?!
Wondering

Just a reflection of the unfinished nature of this release I guess; SH3 had it.:yep:

No, it didn't. :nope: SH2 did, but there is disagreement over whether the Germans even had the capacity to know when they passed a thermal layer.

Im sure stock sh5 did have it.

TDW has adjusted it to help solve the DD AI in IRAI.
He has said he will look at these thing again when he has finished with his import tool

Download IRAI. Open up the \data\cfg\Sim.cfg

Scroll down to [Hydrophone] and [Sonar]

Set thermal layer signal attenuation to 1. Start game and find some warships to mess with. Now tell me if thermal layers aren't in the game or not ;)

Now that you mention it... Steve had a point there about the German's even using thermal layers.
Now, TDW...If I set the layer attenuation to 1, what exactly happens? What I mean of course is, in the Fleet boats there was some message that let you know a depth that a thermal layer was active. It wasn't as complex in the game as real life of course but, is there any mention of thermal layers by the crew as there is in SH4? If there isn't, how do we know what depth they're occuring and when?
This is so exciting, thermal layers in SH5, how cool.

I think what TDW means is that thermal layers are in the game just not called out like in SH4

If ya set those things to 1 as he suggest I believe you'll see that the DD's will cream you :hmmm:

That's what I wanted to know! So... You are using thermal layers whether you know it or not.
Hey, that's OK too. At least I know if I dive deep enough, the thermal layers are there to help as well.
Thanks mate.

Aside from that, to the best of my knowledge:
a.) A german uboat didn't have a Bathythermograph on board. (infact even SH4's representation of this is incorrect because Fleet boats didn't originally come with these onboard either. It was an invention that occurred later in the war. )
b.) Thermal layers were much deeper in the Atlantic, and not normally accessible.

I'm just guessin' but it makes sense ( to me anyways ) if thats the way it works
