Wonder when the music industry will wake up?

Simple formulae work. Make it easy and CHEAP to get content and people won't mind paying for it. How long before the artists kick all the big studios into touch and self distribute? Artists don't even need to pay Apple because the content can still be put on their hardware using iTunes, even if it wasn't obrained via the Apple Store. It just surprises me its taking so long for the industry to wake up. |
the industry won't change before they are forced to by market conditions.

I kind of hope the music industry never learns. I don't think they bring anything to the party anymore except packaging. The Internet and new methods of distribution and production provides artists with a brand new way of doing things without interference from the lazy, bloated big labels.
The one lesson the music industry needs to learn is that they aren't needed or wanted anymore. If they want to survive they'd better learn that and alter their business accordingly. |

This is a fantastic movie that discusses this issue rather well.

The artists are as much a part of the industry as the recording companies. There are some artists that are waking up to the new world order and doing self distribution. If more did it then you might see some action.
