SOPA
Seriously?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhwuX...64FAAAAAAAAKAA :damn: Let's hope that this does not pass. :nope: |
So we can all get the same website filters as China does?
Nice... We need a fascist corporate driven society, would do well, just ask Mussollini and his mistress. I don't support thievery, but I do not support surrendering one of the few things in this country still free, and untouched by government, and political correctness. Sure, zap the piracy sites...Oh that blogger is speaking bad about us, zap him too. Oh these people are organizing a lawful protest, kill the facebook and twitter accounts. Oh darn look! There goes all our liberties.. Once you give up a liberty you never get it back. Once you give up one, they try to take more.. Patriot act is never ever going away, and it only gets worse as we approach our destiny with outright corporate fascism.(this crap is worldwide mind you) Keep privatizing public services, go ahead...It never gets cheaper. Someone gets richer in those deals, but too few to support the public good. Keep it up... We are bringin it on ourselves by passively allowing it. |
Yeh, almost every "big" internet video/review maker has chimed in on this, trying to make people aware of the ridiculous law.
I actually watched around 4-5 hours of the hearings and all that time, the most that was talked about was "we really should get someone here who knows this stuff, because we don't have any idea". So yeah, GJ. I'm at school atm (aye, busy day :O:), but when I get home I'll pop a video I found to be pretty spot on about this all. |
The government is also going out of its way to waste money on outright false propaganda about piracy that even the computer-illiterate wouldn't believe.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvQFnSnhg7U Seriously, what kinda nutjob conceived of that ad? |
:o
:-? :nope: |
Heard about it on the news here.
I cant believe such law can be passed in current form.:damn: |

So me Pirating a movie makes a child work in a sweatshop, where in china? thats no new news. Hell, buying something from Wallmart is more likely to make a little kid work in a factory than pirating a movie. |

Another form of censorship some might say.

My fear exactly, Mr. Buna. It is as if the normal citizenry cannot be trusted to use good judgement. Like video games, we all gotta use some rubbish added .exe (u play for instance) just to verify (online) that you can play the game. Ubisoft is not the only company guilty. But if you look on (self deleted) or (self deleted) or even (self deleted), you can find unlocked versions less than 24 hours after the game is out. Yet if my internet is taking a poop. I am just beat, cheaters play on though. It don't pay to be honest, you pay more than the crooks in the end Then again look at our worldwide government... It is kinda the same isn't it...No refund too, just like these games.. |

Another thing that I remember from watching the hearings was that there was a lot of concern how well the proper procedure would be followed when blocking sites. Especially because it is just cheaper and easier to just block a site than it is to contact them and so on. What if, at some point, they figure that "Hey, we don't need to do this manually! Let's use a contect ID bot like Youtube does and have it block sites if more than X cases of copyright infringement is found!" :dead: Heck, in a very extreme case, Subsim could be blocked due to various mods that offer, for example, copyrighted music. It's just so effing stupid. :damn: The best thing I remember from the hearings is when some a bit younger guy (can't recall names) says: "Right, the thing is, DNS blocking isn't all that effective. I have a statement here from someone who knows this stuff and he says it can be circumvented." To which another guys simply says: "Oh yea? Well, I don't believe you." :dead: |
It was your liking of the vid that made me watch it to begin with Dowly, so I guess the whole 'like this to spread the word' works ;)
I have to shake my head in disbelief of some of the buzz lines of the new anti-piracy drive. "Pirate DVDs help fund terrorism!" It's like they went through the archives from the McCarthy era, and replaced "Communists" with "Terrorists" http://www.twopotscreamer.com/images..._communism.jpg |
Considering we have the best government money can buy, I won't be surprised if it's passed.

It would be even funnier if I thought you believed it. |
