Picture of China's first refitted warship 'emerges'

The Varyag still floats :O:

A commercial US satellite company says it has managed to take a picture of China's first aircraft carrier during its sea trials in the Yellow Sea.
If confirmed, it would be the first known photo of the former Soviet vessel recently refitted by Beijing.

It began sea trials in August, there will be other photos, just not taken by commercial satellite.:yep:

Just one question - will it have a Western Laundry? :D

Ah, by sea trials they actually meant paddling pool trials. Do they have to build another dam and flood the village to get it to float to the sea? :hmmm:

Are you sure that's the same ship? It looks like it has a very different shape from the one shown in the BBC article.

Hmm looking at that Article, is that accurate about the US having 11 Carriers compared to everyone else's 1 (Or two in the case of Italy)

Is America so afraid of everyone that they have to have more carriers then the rest of the world combined? Is America expecting the entire world to team up to take them down? :O:

Or is America's Navy like the Russian Army in WWII?

CHARGE!! IF YOU SINK WE HAVE RESERVES! :O:

That's either the Kiev or the Minsk, both Kiev class carriers that were sold to China, one is a hotel, the other used to be a military amusement park until the owners went bust.

I believe each carrier is the equivalent of having a USAF airbase (no insult intended to the USNs airforce :O:) rock up off your shore, along with cruise missiles, torpedoes, and all sorts of military hardware. Therefore the US needs eleven carriers so that they can have eleven big sticks to put into play if needed.
The rest of the world doesn't have that many because a) they can't afford them and/or b) they have no real need for them, they are not the 'worlds policeman', so they have no real need for that kind of power projection.

Nope its a totally new "ship". Its a tourist trap in Shanghai.

Heh, well I'll be. Guess that was the dummy run for the new generation of carriers they have planned. Let's just hope they remember not to build it out of bricks and mortar...

That was the dummy run, in the next one they've hundreds of holes in the each side for the oars to stick through.
