What Kaleun do you choose to play
in your SHIII service do you choose an actual U-Boot Kaleun and if so why OR do you use your own name or made up name :06:
While we're here if you choose an actual Kaleun do you also use the same U-Boot number he was most succesful with :06: As for me I have 2 careers goin' Engelbert Endass is one in U-Boot 46 because he was a Top U-Boot Ace  And the other career is Gerhard Remus because he was born the same day as me and I use U-Boot U-566 :yep: |
I just keep hitting the randomize button in SHC till infind one I like.
|
ya what he said.
For awhile I was using a real name of a nazi Rochus Misch He is still alive, I got autographed pics, and he is the last person to see hitler alive, and the last survivor of the bunker. |
I randomize captain's names using SH3 Commander like Gargamel or just use my own, sometimes Germanized a bit (K instead of C for example). I never use a real U-Boat captain's name (or Fleet Boat skipper in SH4 either).
Before I start a career I will go to U-Boat.net and find a boat that was historically active in the month the career will start. Generally it will have had no success, there are a lot of boats of all three types that meet that criteria. My current career Type VII is U-743 that sailed from Bergen on 21 August 1944 and sunk sometime in September. Her real life captain was former 2WO of U-333 under KL Peter Cramer and he commissioned U-743 after leaving Cremer's boat in France and was killed on his first patrol as captain. |
I also let SH3 Commander give me a randomized name. I do make sure that the last name starts with a letter correlated to the number of my career, as I usually have several going at once. I also use Commander for names in SH4 and AOTD.
I would never use a real Kaleun's name for my career, as I consider that an offense, especially if I get him killed. :dead: |
I also let Commander give me a randomized name, altho I will keep hitting the button until it pops up something that I like. One thing that always gets my attention, though, is when I get a name that means nothing to me in terms of connection to a real person, but the picture assigned to the career is immediately recognizable as Topp or Prien or one of the other well-known aces.
I have never had the random function pull up a combination from the database that resulted in the name of a real life commander who was already known to me. But... by letting Commander generate random crew names from the database of real first and last names of u-boat men, I once had Otto Kretschmer serving under me as a bootsmann. THAT definitely caught my eye when I was reviewing my crew! :haha: |
"Excuse me, but I couldn't help noticing..."
"No relation, Herr Kaleun!" I did once have a Bernard Baltz in my crew. I started a thread just to show it to Brag. |
You can enter your own name.
|
My own name...I'm old and I like beer so...it makes it easy :har:
|
Yeah, but 'Kaleun Sailor Steve' looks kind of lame. I did once use the German transliteration of my own name, since we were German many centuries ago: Stefan Brodfeldt.
|
Kaleun Hans Gruber, currently hiding from a couple of Black Swans :salute:
|
I use (here on subsim and in SH3 Commander) my "U-Boat nickname" - Josef (or Sepp) von Posorschitz:salute:
|
I let SH3Commander randomize mine.
|
I either randomize or use "Heinrich Schwab". My real name is WAY to English and the Aces should be left alone. Erich Topp or Silent Otto, I am not.
|
I let SH3 Commander randomize mine.
