After Duty, Dogs Suffer Like Soldiers

I could see this happening to military dogs. Dogs can sense tension. Highly intense volatile situations certainly will be picked up by a dog. I suspect repeated experiences will present a problem later.

Dogs have a relatively highly developed conscious mind, they have a decent level of intelligence, a variety of emotions they can perceive in others or feel themselves and express, they form social ties. I am surprised that there are still people who seriously believe that animals as highly developed like these would not show a complex intrinsic reaction (an inner life) to their environment and the experiences it gives them.

And Man Created Dog - a National Geographic presentation that probably won't be on youtube once the copyright weenies find out the whole 90 minutes of said documentary was posted.

Dogs show more empathy than most of the people I've ever met in my life.
