Is SH5 an "improved better" SH3?
I asked this question within the SH5 site ( some of you visit there? ) a short time ago.
After seeing the report that the "steam like" controling program that caused much unhappyness was gone i felt like exploring the notion of giving SH5 a try. What to you SH3 GFX experts think. Is it worth the time and effort to fuss with another game that in the end will find the waste basket ( the cost is of no concern-- atlease now). I still love playing SH3 and very proud of my posting on the over 200K ton board ( 251,000 ) if memory serves me right. But SH4 sure loads faster and the graphics are great. I loved SH3 having the Chiefs (CPO's) being the experts that ran the boat. At age 74 I do not have a lot of time to waste. Any advice will be appreciated. SNAKE1937 |
It's not SH3, there are mods to make it more like SH3, and there are mods to make SH3 look a bit more like SH5. Buy it (through subsim's amazon link, obviously) and pick your mods of choice. :yep:
Only you can decide if you'll like it or not. |
Sir,
I would like to say that I admire you for being 74 and still being able to play computer games. As far as your question , I think : No it isn't. SH5 may have better graphics but it lacks a very important asset: It hasn't an IX type Uboot nor it covers such extended preiod of the war as SH3 does. If we compare SH5 with a heavily modded SH3 I think the latter is definately the winner. |

I concur ... I hope at 74 I'll still be playin' computer games ... KUDOS indeed  I also think that SH3 modded blows SH4 and SH5 outta the water :arrgh!: |
Sorry, read most of the post but not the last bit about you being 74. That's another 20 years of gaming out of you yet - time to try all the mods.
Twice. :D |

"Blows it out of the water" indeed. :nope: |
What I have gathered is Silent Hunter 3 has been given the most attention as far as modding and patching. Silent Hunter 4 not enough mods, which is where the real enjoyment is in these sims. 5 was a flop...I remember reading it had too many bugs upon initial release and the already stated reason.
74 and Silent Hunter... LOL |
Personally, I have no interest in SH5.
The graphics look amazing sure, but even after several years I haven't begun to get bored with SH3. I still enjoy SH3 for the following reasons- Dynamic campaign(at least in the sense you never know what you'll run into each patrol) Several boat types to try Full war experience 39-45 Mods Mods Did I mention Mods? I'm sure I'll try SH4 pretty soon for a change of pace, but feel no need to 'upgrade' to another U-boat sim yet. |

I'll second that , SH3 is a great game and i salute :salute: the GWX team for a great job doing what ubisoft didn't do, Finishing the game, and to all you dudes who have provided us with some cool mods ...:yeah::salute: |
Apples and pears for every reason already posted and a whole lot more.
SH3, 4 and 5 are so cheap now I'd suggest buying them all, adding the mods of your choice and then making an informed choice. SINK EM ALL!! http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...ies/pirate.gif |
Words of wisdom. :sunny:

Silent Hunter 5 has better graphics but 3 had better game play except in the variety of mission types introduced in SH 4. I miss being able to manage the crew like in SH3, Silent Hunter 5 tries to be too much of a movie. Just my opinion.
