Hackers hit US water treatment systems

It's only a matter of time before we see someone die from a hacking attack I think, because no matter how big you build the mousetrap, there's always a bigger mouse. :damn:

If you think water is the most important thing in beer... you've been drinking the wrong beer. :rotfl2:

Saw it once, in the theater, back in the '80s. Did I mention I consider my memory a curse?

Well, if tampering with water treatment wasn't bad enough, wait until you read this article...

Researchers have demonstrated a vulnerability in the computer systems used to control facilities at federal prisons that could allow an outsider to remotely take them over, doing everything from opening and overloading cell door mechanisms to shutting down internal communications systems.
Now HERE is something that really shouldn't be really shouldn't be connected to the net. Prison doors. SCADA systems are used for pretty much everything that requires motors and monitoring&control of larger plants those days. If they're online, they are all vulnerable.

Stupid. The convenience of controlling things remotely is gonna be our undoing. :nope:

This makes me wonder, why is a important infrastructure system like this connected to the internet? Id think they would have them on a secure closed system.

I imagine a lot of them are probably not directly connected to the internet but they are connected to something that is connected to something which is connected to the internet and the firewalls between them are easily breached by hackers who know what they're doing.
