Good News for Boeing

This order should sustain thousands of US jobs and hopefully some in the UK :sunny:

Dubai Airshow: Emirates places 'record' Boeing order

Quote:

Dubai-based Emirates Airlines has ordered 50 long-range Boeing 777 passenger aircraft in an order worth about $18bn (£11.2bn) at list prices.
The carrier's chairman and chief executive, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al-Maktoum said it was the single largest dollar-value order for Boeing aircraft.
"This order represents a milestone," he said after announcing the contract at the Dubai Airshow.
Emirates has also placed options for more jets, worth another $8bn.
The latest announcement take Emirates' firm orders of the long-range aircraft to 90.
Emirates, one of the world's fastest growing carriers, last year placed an order for 30 Boeing 777 planes worth $9.1bn in a deal announced at the UK's Farnborough Airshow.

Nice to know the US can still export something. The carrier is unlikely to pay the full $18 billion. Airlines typically negotiate big discounts, especially when buying in bulk. However, if Emirates goes ahead with the option to buy 20 777s, that would push the deal's face value to $26 billion. All in all, better than a kick in the head for the Seattle area where the planes are still made. :D

Engine maker Rolls-Royce snagged two sweet deals of its own at the start of the show. The British manufacturer said it received an order from Saudi Arabian Airlines worth up to $500 million for engines and support for four Airbus A330s, as well as options to outfit four more of the planes. A second order from Garuda Indonesia Airlines for Trent 700 engines to power four Airbus A330s is worth $280 million at list prices. Nice.

UAE: We would like to purchase some of your hi-tech bombs and weapons.

U.S.: Well, gee I don't know.

UAE: We'll buy some airplanes too!

U.S.: OK
