Abyone know anything about AVR - UPS
I have an old 1kw UPS, it is a stand alone unit, no connection to the PC except for the power cord, if the power drops out the unit cuts in and works well, has done for years, only just replaced the 3 12v batteries.
As some of you know I have recently moved and the power is supposed to be 240v but at night drops to around 220v now if I run the air conditioner its starting current pulls the power down to around 205v and the UPS cuts in for a few seconds then cuts off, this continual cutting in and out drives me nuts and doesn't do much for the UPS I'm sure!:oops::x What I need is a voltage regulator/stabilizer and wondered if this unit would do the job: http://www.hardwaresolution.com.au/p...1-1000257.html OR: http://www.apc.com/products/resource...se_sku=LE1200I Somewhere there was mention of AVR, I wouldn't have a clue what that is about!:hmmm: Any advice would be appreciated.:yep: |
AVR = Automatic Voltage Regulator
it pretty much does as the name sais it automaticly maintains the voltage level constant. I know the pain of your UPS going on and off as you can recall I had trouble with the voltage (brownouts) a while ago. problem got resolved when the damn power company finally decided to take a look and replaced a elecricity coupling outside on the street that was going to our house as it was old dated and we hadn't had a problem ever since. anyway hope your problem gets resolved...but isn't it kinda strange that your voltage drops that low? you might want to check it out. Nothing they can do, we are way out in the sticks and the power is a single 22kv wire to a transformer getting its return through the ground, others running off this have put up with it for years, I hope the stabilizer works ok, but I guess $100 isn't too bad of a gamble.:yep: On the 14th we are having solar panels installed, I hope this relieves the power bill, it's always around $800 per quarter!!:nope:

$800 in a quarter of a year our bill is around a 180-220 Euro that's about 240-300 AUD well hence we don't run AC or anything like that, but it may raise up to 400 AUD in winter with the heating and all. HunterICX |
I would like to install an evaporative air conditioner but water here is scarce, that would certainly halve the bill in summer, I'm hoping to get more storage tanks installed and then switch over, it's only money!:doh: Still, in April 2012 it may not matter anymore!!;)
